Xperia X, the new family of smartphones from Sony

Sony

The Mobile World Congress has officially started today, although in reality it already did yesterday with a large number of events in which we could meet, for example, the new Samsung Galaxy S7 or LG G5, and it has done so with an early presentation from Sony. In it, the Japanese company has surprised us all by officially presenting a new range of mobile devices, baptized with the name of Sony Xperia X.

At the moment there will be three new terminals that make up this family; Xperia X, XA and X Performance. Those in charge of making them known have been neither more nor less than Kazuo Hirai, CEO of the company and Hiroki Totoki, head of Sony Mobile.

Next we are going to review each of the new Sony mobile devices, which share a 5-inch screen and will of course have the latest version of the Android operating system.

Sony Xperia X Performance

The Sony Xperia Performance is the most powerful of the three new smartphones that Sony has presented today and it has characteristics and specifications of the so-called high-end range. First of all, we should highlight that this terminal has a processor Snapdragon 820 from Qualcomm, very similar to what we can see in the LG G5.

We are facing one of the best processors that we can currently find on the market, so it is difficult to think about what Sony could offer us in the next Xperia Z6 that according to rumors could be presented in the coming weeks.

This Snapdragon 820, supported by a 3GB RAM memory, should move a 5-inch screen with Full HD resolution. As to the camera will have a 23 megapixel sensor incorporating a very fast focusing hybrid system. According to Sony, it will be able to focus in just 0,1 seconds, although we must check this in first person to confirm it.

Finally we can tell you that it will offer us an internal storage of 32GB, expandable by microSD card and a 2.700 mAh battery that seems more than enough for the screen size and processor that this new Sony mobile device mounts.

Sony Xperia X

One step below we find ourselves in this family with the Sony Xperia X in which we will find the same screen, with the same resolution, although a step behind in terms of power compared to the Xperia X Performance.

Here we show you the main features and specifications of this Sony Xperia X;

  • 5-inch screen with FullHD resolution
  • Snapdragon 650 processor
  • 3GB of RAM
  • 23 megapixel main camera
  • 13 megapixel front camera
  • 69.4 x 142.7 x 7.9mm, 153g
  • Battery 2.650 mAh
  • 32GB/64GB + microSD
  • Android 6.0 Marshmallow
  • Side fingerprint reader

This Xperia X when it makes an appearance on the market may perhaps become one of the best terminals of the so-called mid-range, also having an outstanding camera, Unfortunately and as we know later, we will have to wait too long to to be able to enjoy this new terminal in our hands.

Sony Xperia XA

The last member of the new family is the Xperia XA that offers three main changes compared to the other terminals. The resolution of the screen drops to 720p, the processor is a MediaTek MT6755 and the configuration of the cameras becomes 13 and 8 megapixels.

Here we show you the main features and specifications of this Sony Xperia XA;

  • Dimensions: 143,6 x 66,8 x 7,9 mm
  • Weight: 137 grams
  • 5-inch screen with HD resolution
  • MediaTek MT6755 Processor
  • 2GB of RAM
  • 2300mAh battery
  • 13 megapixel Exmor RS camera
  • 8 megapixel front camera
  • 16GB of internal memory expandable via microSD card
  • Android 6.0 Marshmallow Operating System

Price and availability

As confirmed by Sony itself, we will have to wait until next June to be able to acquire any of the three members of the Xperia X family, which will be available in the following colors; White, Graphite Black, Lime Gold and Rose Gold.

At the moment we do not know any details about the price, although seeing the time that remains for them to reach the market, I do not think it is too necessary to know the price at the moment. Of course, perhaps knowing that the price is not too competitive, the Japanese company has stated that they will reach the market including different official accessories.

Opinion freely

After getting up earlier than when I go to work every day to attend the Sony event, the truth is that I expected something more and that is that the Japanese company has officially presented three new terminals, which we could say are more than same that we have already seen over and over again.

Sony is going through a difficult time in the mobile phone market and maybe it's because of things like the one we saw today at MWC. The members of the Xperia X family are very good terminals, but none of them offer anything new or something new with which it can conquer users. In order to regain the lost market share, you have to do more than just good devices, and repeating over and over again something that worked a few years ago is not going to get Sony anywhere.

Perhaps this «Free Opinion» should have kept it for me and never brought it to light, but it is that get up early to see an Xperia Z5 again with a new processor and with new colors, I think it's not worth it and that Sony is not going to give too much result. Also and finally, why present a new smartphone in February and then not put it on sale until June?

What do you think of the new members of the Xperia X family officially presented today at MWC?. You can tell us your opinion in the space reserved for comments on this post or through any of the social networks in which we are present.
