2018 could be Barcelona's last year to host the MWC

Every year, in the first quarter of the year, the Mobile World Congress, the most important telephony fair in the world, is held. The main manufacturers of mobile devices and accessories attend this event in addition to presenting the main novelties that will arrive throughout the year related to telephony. In recent years, as we all know, the MWC has been held in Barcelona, but it seems that the latest political events are threatening its permanence in Barcelona, according to John Hoffman, the CEO of the GSMA, a company that organizes the event every year, at the last meeting of the board of trustees of the Barcelona Mobile Word Capital foundation and which we have been able to read in La Vanguardia.

Apparently during this meeting, many were the companies and investors that collaborate in the event that stated that they are considering the continuity of the Mobile World Congress from the year 2019, as long as the city cannot offer sufficient guarantees of political and social stability so that the event can pass without any incident.

An event of this type takes many months of prior organization, so at this point in the year it is impossible to move the event to another city, an event that will take place between February 26 and March 1. What is clear is that it will be a litmus test for the city, and where any possible incident that may affect the development of the fair will be looked at with a magnifying glass.

Both the government and the Catalan capital have wanted to convey a message of tranquility affirming that they work hand in hand for the interests of the city. In addition, they assure that they will do everything possible to guarantee that the fair can develop without difficulties and incidence, as has been happening in recent years, stating that they will not find any compelling reason that could justify the move to another European capital such as Paris, a of the candidate cities.
