Security at airports is getting higher and higher. However, it must be recognized that queuing at security controls is not something that passengers like very much, especially if we arrive for our flight late. However, What if this security check is a virtual window to high definition images?
This is the idea that they want to implement in Dubai Airport, more specifically in Terminal 3. The first of these security tunnels —or gateways— allow travelers to enjoy a virtual aquarium while passing through. However, all these beautiful images will hide what is really important: facial and iris recognition through 80 security cameras.
The approach, as explained in The VergeIs that the traveler moves his head to either side of the catwalk so that the cameras can work comfortably and make the recognition in 3D. That is, if you were impressed by what Apple's Face ID will be able to do on your new iPhone X mobile, this adds one more degree of difficulty: the user is on the move. Now, yes, this method is much more reliable than others.
At the end of the journey, the catwalk will remove all the images from its screens and it may end in two ways: wishing the passenger a happy flight or turning on a red light and alerting the airport security services of any anomaly. The images that are shown inside the security tunnel will not only be of an aquarium, but they can alternate with other scenarios such as a desert, for example; the reason for all this will be whenever the user shakes his head.
The first of these catwalks will be implemented in the Dubai Airport Terminal 3 next year 2018. However, this new method of airport control will be implemented in more terminals over the years.
