Germany will hold Facebook responsible for the crimes of its users

We are living in difficult times for freedom of expression friends, there are more and more reprisals that the authorities take against the way we interact on social networks. This does not mean that, in general, users misuse these online mechanisms, but rather the fact that there are real atrocities that lead to the classic expression: righteous pay for sinners. Germany has approved a peculiar measure that may change the method in which social networks are developed.

We refer in general to all of them, but above all to Facebook, the undisputed leader. And they just approved a New regulatory text in Germany that is quite controversial, which will make the digital media responsible for the opinions and offenses expressed by its users.

And it is that from the moment it comes into force, when a social network or digital medium does not eliminate the content classified as a hate crime (or similar) in the next 24 hours, it will face a fine that will be understood to be issued at the time in which the authorities issue the erasure request. Definitely, In this way, Germany intends to lighten the workload for this type of infraction to its authorities, and thus obliges Facebook to put methods of prevention and elimination of this type of content.

The fine will oscillate between 5 and 50 million euros (there is nothing). However, once again we are navigating swampy terrain when it comes to defining what is a hate crime and what is freedom of expression, as has happened in some notorious case of Spanish Twitter users and "black humor" jokes.
