What would happen if Google bought Telegram

Google and Telegram

In recent days we have learned, according to various media that have offered us little evidence, that the heads of Google and Telergram met on at least one occasion to talk about a possible purchase of the instant messaging applicationto by the search giant. It is not known where that meeting took place, but Pavel Durov was on one side of the table and Sundar Pichay on the other.

There is no doubt that Google has failed in its attempts to have a social network with some relevance or an instant messaging application that can compete with WhatsApp or Telegram itself. Google Plus and Hangouts have not had the expected success and that is why perhaps Google had decided to take out the checkbook to improve its social field with applications such as the one created by Durov, head of the Telegram project.

According to unofficial figures Google would be willing to put on the table 1.000 million dollars to acquire Telegram. However, this offer seems that at least for the moment it is insufficient for those responsible for the instant messaging application, who have not only rejected the offer, but have also denied any contact with Google through Twitter.

Google + Telegram, the perfect combination

Telegram

Telegram is one of the instant messaging services best valued by users, even ahead of the powerful WhatsApp. The privacy it offers, the multiple options it has or its excellent desktop version are just some of the aspects that millions of users have fallen in love with.

A purchase of the service by Google could be that push you need to get closer to WhatsApp in terms of the number of users and become a weighty alternative to WhatsApp.

As of today, and as you can see in the following graph, Telegram is far from the 1.000 million active users per month and has to settle for reaching 100 million users. Most of the applications that dominate this market belong to Facebook and of course there is no trace of Google applications.

The sum of Google and Telegram would serve to give a new life to the instant messaging application, although it is more than possible that some of the aspects that are now referenced will go into the background.

Telegram denies it and Google is silent

The information regarding a possible Google negotiation for the purchase of Telegram says that Durov and Pichay met about a year ago in a place at the time unknown. As we have already commented, Telegram has denied such an encounter and Google for the moment is silent, which is tremendously suspicious.

Most of the times and when these types of meetings occur, nobody or almost nobody knows about it, and it is strange that in this case it has come to light. That Telegram denies it, I think it honestly does not mean anything at all, and that the logical thing, for any company in its situation would be to deny it. What seems clear is that as the saying goes, when the river sounds, it carries water.

And in this specific case that the river carries water is safe, another thing will be to see where that river reaches. Google desperately has to do something in some areas, and instant messaging is one of them. With Hangouts, it is clearly losing the war and its service has never had the support of users and the number that still use it is counted. Telegram for its part has grown, but not to the level that perhaps we all expected. To catch up with WhatsApp, you need great support, such as the search giant, although you may lose some of its essential features in return.

Facebook and WhatsApp should start to worry

WhatsApp

For some time now, the social network Facebook has owned WhatsApp, for which it paid 1.000 million dollars, the same thing that Google has now offered for Telegram. According to various information, the search giant, checkbook in hand, wants to buy one of the most popular instant messaging applications of the moment and those responsible for WhatsApp would do well to start worrying. And it is that Telegram, without the help of anyone, has managed to grow to a great extent, offering interesting features that are highly appreciated by users.

If the purchase is carried out by Google, Telegram could grow exponentially, thanks to Google's media, to its influence on many users or for example thanks to the inclusion of the instant messaging application natively in all versions of Android. In a short time it could catch up with WhatsApp and even devour it, because let's not forget the security and the options that Telegram offers us, you will not be able to find them in WhatsApp.

Google will announce the purchase of Telegram soon

Maybe I'm wrong, but since the news came to light that Google was interested in buying Telegram I am convinced that the purchase will be officially announced soon. The journey in the Telegram market is coming to an end, and it is that its growth in terms of the number of users is increasingly less. If Google takes over the instant messaging service, everything could take a turn, and the company that runs Sundar Pichay has two things left over, the money and the means to bring the instant messaging service up to the height of WhatsApp.

We have already heard about the first contacts between Telegram and Google, and despite the silences and denials, we will soon have new news, perhaps a new economic offer or the conditions that Telegram will impose on Google, but I am very afraid that This is not over because the search giant "is hungry" and above all it needs to have a presence in a fundamental market.

Do you think that Google will end up buying Telegram sooner or later or that on the contrary the instant messaging service will continue to work independently?.
