Skype will also stop working on Windows Phone 8.x and Windows 8.1 RT

Skype or Whatsapp

A few weeks ago we informed you of Microsoft's plans to stop offering service to Android devices with a version equal to or lower than 4.0.3 a decision that has not been amusing to the owners of these devices. But these terminals are now also joined by all devices with Windows Phone 8.x and Surface with Windows 8.1 RT. It is clear that Microsoft wants to focus on the latest version that it has launched on the market, Windows 10 multiplatform, but it is another thing to stop offering service directly to all the owners of these terminals without any alternative.

On the Skype Support page, we can see how Windows has decided to initially stop offering support to Skype in October of this year for the terminals mentioned above, although it will continue to work with some other limitation. As of early 2017, a specific date has not yet been specified, the application will directly stop working completely, forcing the users of these devices to change terminals or try to make the Skype web service work, a version that only requires the installation of a plugin to work.

We do not know why the Redmond-based company made this decision, but surely this decision will not help current Windows Phone users consider in the future to get hold of a terminal from the company seeing the abandonment they will suffer from users. As soon as Microsoft informs about the magazine date for the suspension of the Skype service we will inform you promptly and it may be the ideal time to think about renewing the device, since fewer and fewer services continue to offer support to Windows Phone and Windows 8 .x RT.
