Spain leads contactless payments in the era of mobile payments

Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, Bizzum ... we are certainly now in the era of fast paymentsWe do not have the time or desire to lose in an activity that affects us economically, it is none other than making payments. Even more so in Spain, a country where until recently it was an established custom to show (and request) the DNI to confirm the identity of the user of a credit card. This was how quickly many Spanish banks began to offer NFC system.

Thus, Spain has become, despite our tradition of difficult adaptation to technological developments, the country in Europe with the highest rate of contactless payments. Good news emphasizing that we are in a country that traditionally shuns new technologies in many areas.

Osborne clarke has carried out a study that reveals the fact that 57% of Spaniards regularly use contactless cards, so the deployment by banks has been sufficient and efficient at the same time. This time we find a figure considerably higher than the European average, which is 45%. As it could not be any other way, to confirm the success of contactless in credit and debit cards it is totally necessary for businesses to adapt with the inclusion of adapted dataphones, another aspect where Spain leads Europe according to a VISA study that determines whate there are approximately 820.000 contactless terminals throughout Spain, providing that by 2020 all businesses that accept card payments include them.
