Traditionally, when it comes to dividing up household chores, something more than usual in recent years, as a general rule, the washing machine section always falls on the woman, always alluding to the man, the lack of ignorance about its operation. This lack of knowledge is generally related to the type of fabric of the garments, at what temperature the clothes should or can be washed, what type of garments can leave color ... too many issues that men have always ignored without worrying when we have seen in the need to put the washing machine, yes or yes, obtaining different results, so that for the next time, we will take more into account, both the fabrics and the washing temperature.
To confirm that the washing machine and everything related to it, has always given us hives, the firm IPSOS, has carried out a study for Samsung, as part of the #YaNoHayExcusas campaign, a campaign with which they want to make the population aware that this task is not exclusive to women, but that men are perfectly capable of carrying it out.
On November 14, the #YaNoHayExcusas campaign began in the Granada town of Jun, famous for being one of the most technological in Spain, which wants to raise awareness about equality in the distribution of household chores. According to the IPSOS study that I have commented on in the previous paragraph, only 3 out of 10 men use the washing machine on a regular basis. Below we detail the main reasons they allege to avoid this task.
- 49% do not know directly how to put the washing machine, the perfect excuse.
- 13% say they don't have time.
- While 8% say that they take care of other tasks and that it is difficult for them to organize their clothes.
- The remaining 6% say they spoil their clothes every time they put them in the washing machine.
As we can see the lack of knowledge about the type of garments to be washed, their composition, if they leave color or if they have to be washed with cold or hot water in addition to how it works, They include all the possible excuses to give up this task.
IPSOS also offer us data on the principal reason why women always put the washing machine, reasons that we detail below.
- 29% sign that it is one of their shared tasks.
- Another 29% say that they have always done this task "by default".
- And 22% affirm that they are in charge of putting it because they live alone.
- 13% affirm that they are always the one in charge of putting the washing machine because they know how it works.
As expected, as the age of the respondents grows, the percentage of men who put the washing machine on is reduced, with 42% of men between 18 and 34 years who are in charge of 25%. These figures should not surprise us, since young people are not only much more aware of the equality of men and women in household chores, but technological developments make some tasks, such as putting in the washing machine, a lot simpler.
