PPS. What are ppsx files and how to view files with a .ppsx extension

powerpoint-pps-ppsx-files

Microsoft PowerPoint is a software for creating presentations. It is widely used in teaching, business and family conventions among others. According to Microsoft, 30 million presentations are created daily. A few years ago, PowerPoint files were continually circulating between emails. Lately their circulation has been reduced, to the benefit of gifs, but they continue to circulate in large numbers.

We are talking about files whose extension is.pps or .ppsx (this last extension is used since the 2010 version of PowerPoint). Through the PowerPoint application we can create and view presentations including photographs, text, audio and videos, which we can configure so that, every certain interval of time or by clicking on the mouse, they change following the order established when it was created.

The best and most recommended option to view these types of files is to have the application with which Microsoft PowerPoint is created, which will allow us to modify them, if it is of our interest, or only view them through the official Microsoft application called Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer, which can be downloaded directly from the Microsoft page.

How to install Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer to view pps / ppsx files

1-download-power-point-viewer

  • We visit the link where the official Microsoft page will be displayed where we can download the PowerPoint file viewer. Click on download, since the application language will have been selected automatically.

1-download-viewer-power-point-2

  • Then Microsoft will recommend us if we want to download a Word file viewer and a plug-in to save files as PDF. We go to the lower right corner and click on No thanks and continue.

1-download-viewer-power-point-3

  • At the bottom of the screen, depending on the browser, the browser will ask us for permission to download the file. Click on Save and the download will begin.

1-download-viewer-power-point-4

  • Once downloaded, we go to the directory where the application has been downloaded, which by default will be the folder called Downloads and we execute it by double clicking on it.

1-download-viewer-power-point-5

  • If the user account control requests permission to install the application, click on the YES option. A poster will appear where you inform us of the Microsoft software license terms. We go to the tab located in the lower left part of the box, we mark them and in the lower right corner, we can click on Continue.

1-download-viewer-power-point-6

  • A sign will appear informing us that we are going to proceed with the installation. Click on next and in the next window, click on Install, unless we want to modify the directory where we want to install it.

1-download-viewer-power-point-7

  • Finally a poster will appear that informs us that the application has been installed correctly. Click on Accept.

From now on, every time we try to open a PowerPoint file with the .pps or .ppsx extension, the Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer will automatically open. One thing to keep in mind is to only open files that we know where they come from. Generally our friends and family send us files with the extension pps / ppsx that do not have any type of virus. However, when a stranger sends us a file of this type, it is always advisable to pass it through the antivirus.

I guess the best thing is that you recommend OpenOffice, which is free and practically spiritBetter to get used to good habits than bad 🙂

Good article for the young people of the Viangre place, since you can clarify the difference between .pps and .ppt because many times I am surprised by people who do not know. 😉

  3.   Sergio said

Unfortunately there are too many who know what they are, and they send a lot of these.

Many times the solution is the delete button, although in the cases in which it is necessary to see them I prefer OpenOffice, at least I think it is the only one that runs on other non-Windows platforms, although in any case it gives me some curiosity to know this tool you've never heard of.

I hope you finish the post. Greetings

good post, the tool that you comment (the viewer) is very good and easy to use, it is interesting that you comment, since surely there are many people who do not know its existence, although it has a long time.

Dear vinegar: o Javi, as you prefer, your article that was linked to me by the forum was very good, but it is not my problem, I see it perfectly in the .pps the issue is that when I record a P.Point file, it records it for me like .ppt and not like .pps, I don't know why or how to do it. If you can help me, thank you very much. Elhugo

Interesting article, I just have to add that the viewer is free but not PowerPoint on which it rests that if it is paid and without which it would not work. It went without saying how the pps are created: simply when saving, choose Save as then "Save as type" and there search for * .pps and OK.

I HAVE INSTALLED THE POWER POINT 2007 AND I CANNOT OPEN THE .PPS

I KEEP IT ON THE DESK AND WHEN I WANT TO OPEN IT, NOTHING IS LIKE IT OTHERWISE I WILL PUNCH IT, NOTHING IS OPENED
I WAIT AN ANSWER TO MY MAIL IF IT CAN BE
    THANK YOU

Ismael your problem is that you will have lost the association of the porwerpoint with the pps files. You can do two things: reinstall PowerPoint 2007 or install the viewer that I recommend.

  17.   ISMAEL said

I've already reinstalled it and you're welcome. Likewise. when I open it, it loads and it comes out save in ... I save it and when I click it to open it, it's as if I don't give it, nothing comes out.
In properties, the file type appears power point slide show.
what is that? and why does it come out? and how do i change it? because before that guy did not go out.
thanks to all!!!!!! And on top of that, my mail is filling up and they are telling me that I have to see them because they are great

I can only think that your antivirus (if you have it) considers those pps files as dangerous and does not let them open. Try to disconnect it and see how it works, but remember to activate it again later.

But if I select "remember my data on this computer" I can open it. Is there any way to configure them to be able to open them from the mail without checking "remember my data on this computer"? .-

For the first time I am going to post but seeing the difficulties they have with something simple motivated me to do it, to open a file with a .pps extension (a presentation) if you intend to modify it, just change the extension to .ppt and you can modify it with power point.

Hello Vinegar, looking for the solution to a problem with pps's I saw your article here and it seems excellent. Hopefully you can help me with this: I have a large file with pps files but I need to see their content (without opening them, only the first slide) from the windows explorer or from some other program to see which ones belong to the same topic and join them in a single file . With ppsx files there is no problem, its content is automatically seen in the windows browser, but not with pps. Thanks in advance for your help.

another some program or form to make burning a self-executable pps file that is efficient and fast.

something that makes it practical to open pps slides directly without popping out dialog boxes.

The problem is that at the beginning if they run and they are seen in the three monitors, but only one remains active where the mouse is clicked and the other screens do not continue running, they remain static, and the presentation must be clicked if you want that keep running on the monitor you want, I hope I have explained

Hello, I just bought a computer with Windows 7 and I have installed the 2003 office where I have the power point program but when I receive the emails in pps format I cannot open them, it tells me that I do not have any program that can open the file, I have downloaded the Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007 Viewer program and I still cannot see the files.
But if I save the file and change the format to ppt I can see it.

I have looked in the control panel, associate a file type to a default program and I find that I do not have the pps extension, how can I fix it so that I do not have to save the files and change the extension.
