A more capable HDMI connection is made possible by the new 2.1 standard

HDMI

We have long known part of the succulent specifications offered by the standard HDMI 2.1 since they were published during the CES celebration in Las Vegas back in January 2017. Unfortunately at the beginning of this year HDMI Forum he just gave us a series of hints of what they had planned for this new version. We had to wait until the end of 2017 to know all its final specifications.

Regrettably it's been too long since it was announced that they were working on them until the new standard for the HDMI connection was finally published, so much so that many of the large companies that might be interested in being the first to implement it have finally had to launch their products without The same, a clear example, I mention it because at the beginning of the year there were many rumors that mentioned it, we have it in Microsoft's Xbox One X, a product that finally does not have it.

Due precisely to all these delays, it is to be expected that the HDMI 2.1 does not reach the market officially in the different products, until the middle or end of next year 2018, predictably on devices of many formats, especially television screens. To whet your appetite, tell you that many of these devices can be seen during the CESS 2018 celebration.

Practically all the rumors that spoke of the HDMI 2.1 standard are confirmed

Leaving aside a bit the issue of electronic devices that will finally reach the market supporting the new HDMI 2.1 standard, we will talk about all those features that make it one of the most advanced and interesting that we can find. One of the main advantages for all manufacturers of this new standard is that it will not be very complex to be able to add it to all devices that already work with the 2.0 format.

With this in mind it is not surprising that many manufacturers are updating the different versions of the products that implement it, something that will finally make consumers able to take advantage of its enormous bandwidth. As a reminder to tell you that we are talking about 48 GB / s of bandwidth, enough to give support for 10K resolutions.

Surely seeing that this new standard allows a bandwidth of 48 GB / s you will be rubbing your hands. Interestingly, and as they say, 'the one who makes the law cheats'and this time to take advantage of all this huge bandwidth we will need to purchase a cable 'HDMI 48G'At least it is to be appreciated that this new cable, as well as the standard in general, is completely compatible with all the HDMI standards registered up to this moment.

HDMI 2.1 not only comes with more bandwidth, but also with VVR, ALLM and QMS

Continuing with the most interesting features of HDMI 2.1, we find a new rate of 60 Hz for 8K and 120 Hz for 4K in addition to Dynamic HDR for all resolutions. An important part in this field is the VVR compatibility since now it will allow us to have an automatic adjustment of the refresh rate depending on the connected device. Thanks to the VVR, latency, skipping and the dreaded 'frame tearing'. Obviously, this function is designed taking into account the great use that will be given to it both in computers and in video game consoles.

Before saying goodbye, we have to talk about two new technologies implemented. On the one hand we have the one called as Auto low latency mode, a low automatic latency mode that seeks to achieve greater fluidity in the display of content. Second we find the Quick Media Switching, intended to reduce as much as possible the waiting time in which a blank screen is displayed when we switch between devices.
