Acer Swift 5, we analyze one of the best bets on the market for autonomy and portability

More and more brands are opting for products that are thinner, lighter and with more autonomy, especially when we refer to laptops. It has its logic, and it is that there are many who choose these characteristics first, undoubtedly thanks to the comfort it offers, and of course the versatility. Acer knows a lot about this and has therefore renewed the range Swift.

This time we bring you the Acer Swift 5, a very powerful model despite its lightness and portability. Let's get to know it more closely, we present you a high-capacity laptop for under a thousand euros.

As always, we are going to focus on a variety of details that will make you choose or not for this model, in each of its facets. Both in terms of design and performance, it has generally left us a very good taste in our mouths, although we can never leave behind the price. rather, it is close to 1.000 euros. Let's go without further delay to take a walk through what are its most notable technical characteristics.

Technical characteristics: Enough power for day to day

With the day to day we want to refer to that it is a laptop designed to work, for office automation, for study, in fact it seems an ideal companion to go to University, however, it is not designed far from it to play, and it is that despite having a processor 5th Gen Intel Core iXNUMX, at the GPU level we have the Intel HD Graphics 620, which we already know, they will not give much, that is, integrated graphics card, no card capable of supporting the power of a video game by itself. It is something that is important to take into account from the first moment.

  • Processor Intel Core i5-8250U (1.6GHz, 6MB)
  • RAM 8GB DDR8 SODIMM
  • HDD 256GB SSD
  • Screen 14 ″ LED FullHD (1920 x 1080) 16: 9 Touch
  • Wi-Fi
  • Bluetooth 4.0
  • Integrated webcam
  • Microphone
  • GPU Intel HD Graphics 620

However, the 256 GB SSD with which it has, accompanied by its 8 GB of DDR RAM8, offer us a spectacular performance throughout the Operating System. I have found myself very comfortable executing various Windows 10 tasks and applications without any problem, as well as a good file transfer rate and execution of common tasks, in short, the domestic field and the day to day is where the most and best is unwrap this Acer Switf 5.

Connectivity and autonomy: Despite its lightness, it lacks nothing

While many brands tend to have less and less external connections, it seems that the guys at Acer have not wanted to forget practically any. We have an HDMI connection, an audio connection with a microphone, two USB 3.0, a USB-C, an integrated Webcam, Wi-Fi ac and of course Bluetooth 4.0. All this duly integrated into the operating system so that we can fully enjoy its capabilities, without a doubt. This is one of the things that has made me feel more comfortable about this Acer Switf 5, without a doubt you will not miss absolutely anything.

  • HDMI
  • Audio Combo
  • 2x USB 3.0
  • 1x USB 3.1 Type-C

The autonomy for its part does not disappoint, perhaps the Kaby Lake generation of processors together with the lack of a graphics card make consumption excellent, although we cannot go crazy either. We have hardly managed to get six hours of undemanding use of the autonomy. That is, in principle it should be enough for a school or work day, but we are not going to entrust our future to its autonomy, although it is well above that offered by most devices with Windows 10, It is not the best we have tried. Let's say that given the dimensions and its lightness, it is enough.

Other functionality to highlight is its fingerprint reader integrated with Windows Hello which will allow us to access it quickly and comfortably, despite not offering the speed of any smartphone, it is comfortable and is greatly appreciated in a laptop with these characteristics.

Screen: A Full HD and IPS panel that defends itself very well

We find a large sticker on its front that wants to remind us what we are going to enjoy as soon as we turn on the screen, we have a panel 1080-inch Full HD 14p at 1920 x 1080 resolution. As soon as we turn it on we find a very good contrast, a good backlight that makes it comfortable even outdoors and a more than enough resolution. Above all, it should be noted that said panel is IPS, by this I mean that the viewing angle is almost absoluteIn other words, from whatever angle, we are going to be able to do our missions correctly. In the same panel of the screen we will find precisely the webcam with enough quality to maintain a video call without fanfare.

This panel is tactile, a surprising addition that we can highlight, but that although, I have never quite made sense of it inside a laptop or any panel of these characteristics ... Why dirt a screen of this quality?

Design and construction details: we have backlit keyboard

It should be noted that this laptop is made of magnesium and lithium - yes, I have also been perplexed - offering lightness and resistance alike. It's a pretty flat but comfortable design, we've tested the blue and gold edition and it actually looks pretty good. This is how they manage to put 14 inches of screen in just 970 grams, a real surprise, really. To the touch the feeling is splendid, although it makes you doubt at a first glance whether or not it is metal, since it does not seem as "cold" as the aluminum that we find in ASUS laptops or for example MacBooks.

On the other hand we have a backlit keyboard, quite basic, it offers us a slight range of power and stands out much more in darkness than in day to day, it is something that continues to surprise us who use MacBook, the way to adapt the keyboard LEDs from other brands has always had me intrigued, it does not seem so difficult to embed the lighting under the keys and illuminate the symbol. Definitely, the backlit keyboard It is enough to get us out of the way, but it is certainly not the most attractive. For his part the trackpad is comfortable and sufficient considering the size of the notebook, it has felt comfortable on a day-to-day basis.

Editor's opinion: Lightness, autonomy and good construction

You have to be very clear about what you are looking for in this laptop. The reality is that with the price offered by Acer -around 990 euros- it costs not to think of other alternatives, no longer directly from Apple, where without a doubt we will not find so many peripherals and connections, but from manufacturers themselves that run Windows 10 as the operating system. The reality is that it is not really cheap, however it offers a clear combination of defining characteristics.

Pros

  • Materials and design
  • Thinness
  • Local

Cons

  • Price
  • fair autonomy

It does not have a raw power designed for games, but it does for day to day, for a job or for student office automation. The reality is that it would be a fantastic study or office companion, its weight makes it ideal and autonomy as well, as well as certain features -for example the touch panel-. You have to be clear that you are looking for something like this, if you have already thought about it, it is one of the best offers on the market in its range of functionality.
