Amazon says NO to unlimited cloud storage

Amazon ends unlimited cloud storage

We are more and more users who, both personally and professionally, store our data, documents, photographs, videos in the cloud in order to have them available at any time and from any device, as long as we have an internet connection, of course. And now that this cloud thing is spreading by leaps and bounds, providers are starting to make it clear: Unlimited storage? Nothing about that!

The last to take the step has been precisely one of the most important, Amazon, who after breaking the market with a rate up to ten times cheaper than its competitors, it has slammed on the brakes and he said enough!

Unlimited cloud storage? Nor in your best dreams

The giant Amazon had become the leading cloud storage service for massive amounts of data like, for example, Plex's cloud library service, which allows (allowed) its users to store unlimited music and videos in the cloud to enjoy them at any time. And how had he done it? Simple, launching an ambitious proposal that offered unlimited and cheap storage, for a tenth of the best offer of the competition.

But now that cloud storage is growing by leaps and bounds, and that Amazon has become a benchmark in the sector, it seems that not setting limits is not so important anymore. And in this sense, Amazon has followed in Microsoft's footsteps, company that had already limited its OneDrive service to 1TB per user since November 2015 and, from there, almost à la carte options.

Hereinafter Amazon's cloud storage has been reduced to two offers:

  • 100GB for $ 11,99 / year.
  • 1 TB for $ 60 per year (this is the one that was unlimited).

From there, the user can contract up to an additional 3rd TB at a rate of $ 60 / TB.

Remember that if you exceed any of these new plans and do not want to expand, you have 180 days to download all your files and not lose them.

As for the photos, Prime users will keep unlimited storage for photos.
