Aorus 5, Gigabyte's entry-level gaming laptop [Review]

Laptops long ago were at opposite poles in terms of the world of video games, however, many brands have opted to create a series of laptops that offer battle in the gamer sector. You will have been able to see many analyzes of this type of devices here on Actualidad Gadget. Today we have a Gigabyte product on the analysis table for the first time. Discover with us what the new Aorus 5 hides, Gigabyte's entry-level range of gaming laptops designed for all audiences. As always we are going to take a very in-depth look at it so you can get to know it in depth.

Design and materials

In our test we have used more specifically the Gygabite Aorus 5 SB model, a product manufactured entirely in black plastic. We have the logo of the brand on the back in silver but without the typical RGB LEDs so striking that other brands in the sector usually use. In this case we have measures of 3? 61 (W) x 258 (D) x 27.9 (H) mm, which quickly makes it one of the most "manageable" devices in the range of gaming laptops that we are used to testing. This has struck us as surprising.

  • Size: 3? 61 (W) x 258 (D) x 27.9 (H) mm
  • Weight: 2,2 Kg

We have a medium-sized trackpad with two physical buttons on the bottom, connections on both sides and on the back (for example the network and power connection) so it is quite comfortable to use. As for cooling, we have found the classic bottom and sides, without finding excessively loud noise. It appears to cool quite well and expel heat efficiently. I was also surprised by how compact its charger with power supply is, also smaller than usual.

Technical characteristics

Let's now take a tour of the purely technical, we start with the processor, where we could not expect less than an Intel Core i7-10750H (2.6GHz-5GHz), that is to say, the tenth generation of Intel processors, more than proven. The version that we have tested is accompanied by two 8GB RAM memories that give a total of 16GB DDR4 at 2933MHz and that we can easily expand up to 64GB, while we have the rest of the functionalities thanks to the Mobile Intel HM470 Express Chipset as well as integrated graphics Intel UHD Graphics 630 for low-demand tasks.

Now we go to the graphics card, where we see a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti GDDR6 6GB fully compatible with NVIDIA Optimus technology. In this case we have tested the unit with 1TB of SSD storage, but we remember that we have three storage slots, a 2,5 ″ HDD and two M.2 SSDs.

Without a doubt technically we do not lack anything and it is a fairly tight device in terms of price, we have a mid-range graphics card in a device with fast RAM, versatility in terms of the SSD and a more than proven processor, little to say to the respect.

Connectivity and autonomy

As for the connections, we do not lack absolutely nothing, we are going to give a little review of everything we have available. The truth is that I have missed absolutely nothing, I have found a very versatile laptop in this regard, in fact I was surprised to have an SD card reader which will also help us to use it to work more often.

  • 1? X RJ-45
  • 1x HDMI 2.0 (with HDCP)
  • 1x USB2.0 Type-A
  • 1x USB3.2 Gen1 Type-A
  • 1x USB3.2 Gen2 Type-A
  • 1x DisplayPort 1.4 Type-C over USB 3.2 Gen 2
  • 1 x MiniDisplay 1.2
  • 1 x SD card reader
  • 1 x microphone connector
  • 1x Audio combo jack
  • 1x Power connector

As for wireless connections we have the port Realtek RTL8411B LAN and the Intel AX200 for WiFi, We have a good WiFi range according to our tests, with low latency in both 2,4GHz and the usual 5GHz networks. Regarding the Bluetooth, could not miss version 5.0.

Speaking of the battery we have a 180W load and a team of Lithium polymers from 48.96Wh, the result is the same as always in this type of device, just over two hours when we demand it with video games, more than 6 hours with a standard job.

Multimedia and other functionalities

We now focus on your LCD panel 15,6 inches, it has a matte coating, Full HD resolution and most interestingly, a 144Hz refresh rate. It is made by LG and we have 72% of the NTSC range. It has a relatively thin bezel and at the top we find its HD resolution conference camera. The screen is one of its highlights, it has well adjusted colors, a good reaction and a brightness more than enough.

For his part, Aorus Gaming Center integrated will allow us to modify some characteristics such as ventilation and performance. We have an RGB backlit keyboard It offers a rubbery feel and that I honestly found it pleasant despite the fact that perhaps the keys "flapped" more than necessary in some circumstances. It is more comfortable to play than to write.

We don't forget the sound two speakers of 2W each well adjusted, Although they do not have a particularly high volume, they do allow us to enjoy a more than decent stereo that will get us out of trouble, without noteworthy bass, of course.

Editor's opinion

With these Aorus 5SB we have an «entry-level» for gaming computers, without forgetting that we will find it around 1.300 euros depending on the point of sale. It is true that its design and characteristics transports us to the mid-range, and the reality is that I at least did not need so much flourish in terms of LEDs and those things that the new batch of players like so much. It becomes a more comfortable laptop to carry, with more than decent dimensions and weight. We hope you liked our analysis and don't forget to take advantage of the comment box.
