A series begins on Ares, Azureus, eMule (we already saw how download emule servers) and other P2P programs in which we will see how to install, use and configure these programs to get the most out of them.
As the title indicates we start with Ares.. Today we'll see how to install and configure it correctly. But before you start, if your problem is that Ares does not connect, is always connecting and never goes online, try reading Ares does not connect to solve your problems.
1º) The first thing we will do is download ares from the official Ares website clicking on this link, a download window will automatically open. Download the file and search for it on your computer.
The file name is "Aresregular209_installer.exe" (if you only see "Aresregular209" nothing happens, you just have the hidden extensions. When you have it located, click twice to start the installation.
2º) La Ares facility It is extremely simple, you just have to follow this sequence (keep in mind that in the first window you will be accepting the user license):
3º) With the above, you will have the program installed. If you have a firewall installed it will jump during the installation and you will have to give Ares permissions to connect to the Internet.
4º) Open the program and you will have a window like the one below with the Internet tab active. In this view you can use Ares to navigate (like Firefox or Internet Explorer). But we will focus on downloading and to configure the program we click on the tab "Control Panel".
5º) The first time you start the program it will ask you if you want to choose a username, if you press yes you will do it immediately but otherwise you will have to look for the option in the "Control Panel" by Ares. To do so click on the tab "General" and write a name in the field "User" and choose the type of connection you have in "Speed".
Without leaving this window select the options that interest you from the following by checking the corresponding box:
- Start Ares when I start my PC: If you check this box, Ares will start automatically every time you turn on your computer. I don't recommend it because then it will install like resident program and it will slow down the boot of your computer.
- Auto-connect to network when Ares starts: If you mark it every time you open the program, it will automatically connect avoiding you having to click on the button "Connect".
- Close Ares when clicking the close button: If you check it, the program will close completely when you click on close (red button in the upper right corner of any window). If you don't mark it and click on close, you will close the window but the program will remain open, although minimized in the task area (lower right corner of your desktop).
- Do not show information windows in downloads: This option is not important, if you leave it unchecked you will see a window informing you about the download when you hover over it.
- Pause video when moving between sections: as with Ares you can see and preview videos, if you check this box it will temporarily stop playback when you go from one tab to another. If you leave it unchecked, the video will continue playing even if you are not in the "Player" tab.
- Show «What I'm listening to» on MSN: If you check this tab, your MSN contacts will be able to see what you are listening to on your computer.
- Finally, note that at the end of everything you can choose the home page to sail with Ares filling in the field "Internet Home" the web address you prefer.
6º) Now we go to the tab "Download". By default everything is ready to work correctly but we are going to see some things that you should take into account.
Leave everything as you see in the image above and remember to check the boxes «Shows the percentage of the download» (to know how much you have left to download from a download) and "Ask for confirmation when canceling downloads" (to avoid canceling a download by mistake). If in your installation another port number appears in "Accept incoming connections in the port:" leave it as is and don't change it by the one that appears in the image above.
Here you have to be vigilant. If we leave it as is (see the image above) Ares will use all available bandwidth when no other program uses it. If you see that when you browse the Internet you have very slow speed try limiting the upload and download bandwidth. For a connection of about 3 megabytes, try putting 100 in "Send bandwidth" There 300 in "Download bandwidth". If you do not find an improvement in the browsing speed, lower the value of "Download bandwidth" and if you see that the downloads are very slow, raise this value. You will have to find your own balance.
Finally in this tab we choose a download folder by clicking on «Change folder». You can also leave the one that appears by default, to your liking 🙂
7º) To end the Ares initial setup We are going to indicate which folders we are going to share with the rest of Ares users. To do so click on the tab Filesharing within "Control Panel" and then click on the tab "Manual configuration". You will have to choose which folders to share by checking the corresponding boxes. BE CAREFUL and don't share folders that have personal data. When you finish click on the button "To accept".
With all this we will have our Ares configured and ready to download. We will see shortly how to use it in another manual step by step. Until then vinegary greetings.

Hi. Until a few days ago ARES worked wonders. Sometimes it would download up to 24 audio and video files simultaneously at high speed and without any problem. It turns out that suddenly ARES can't seem to find the files that are in the subdirectories of the download folder, I had to move all the ARESTRA_ files from the subdirectories to the downloads directory and now it takes me more files, but not all (about 60 out of 107). And on top of that, it connects, appears online, and uploads data but does not download anything. What will be happening? What I can do?
