Autonomous Ready Spain, the project that links Barcelona to the autonomous car

Surely you are one of those who is eager to see more autonomous cars in Europe and it is true that the presence of these is expanding in the most important cities, there is still a long way to go in this regard. Now with the project Autonomous Ready Spain, which unites DGT, Mobileye (from Intel) and the city of Barcelona, everything seems to start.

This is a project for the introduction of autonomous cars in Spain, but before launching the cars on the street it is necessary to do many kilometers and that is why this agreement is important. In a short time some 5 cars equipped with Mobileye technology (a subsidiary of Intel) will begin to collect the necessary data to start with the autonomous car in our country.

All data is important for the autonomous car

And it seems that simply having the maps of the streets and avenues of a city is enough to launch autonomous cars, but this is not the case, much more information is needed on the ground in which to deploy Car and for this reason, data on the streets and infrastructures of the city will be collected in real time that will be used for the creation of high definition maps based on crowdsourcing.

With all these data, they will have a basis to start with the project of launching autonomous cars and although it is true that it will take a long time for that to really end up happening, it is important to take the first step since it is always the most important. In this case The DGT, has been in negotiations with Mobileye since the beginning of this year to implement this type of tests, and to begin with, Mobileye's technology will be implemented in the fleets of collaborating entities: municipal services, transport companies, urban buses, carsharing and ridesharing services. Then it will be time to continue working for its implementation and it is that the road is long, but super important and interesting for our country.
