BlackBerry passes the baton of mobile manufacturing to TCL

At the end of September, a rumor began to circulate that the Canadian firm BlackBerry, formerly called RIM, would close its hardware division, which was monopolizing more than 50% of the income that the company was having. The news was confirmed days after the hand of John Chen, CEO of BlackBerry. In this way BlackBerry would focus solely on software leaving aside device manufacturing, devices that would be manufactured by the Chinese company TCL, which is also responsible for the manufacture and design of the terminals of the French firm Alcatel, another telephony giant at the end of the 90s, which has declined in recent years, although it has returned with renewed strength and new ideas.

The Canadian firm confirmed yesterday that it will be the TCL firm that will be in charge of the manufacture and design of the next terminals that are launched on the market under the name BlackBerry that it only puts the brand and the software that will be installed on all terminals that hit the market. TCL had already been in charge of the design and subsequent manufacture of the BlackBerry DTEK50 and DTEK60 in recent months, this latest model is now available for purchase through the official BlackBerry website for just under 600 euros.

TCL has obtained the exclusive manufacturing rights for the whole world except Indonesia, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and India, countries in which the Canadian firm has reached an agreement with other companies to commission the design and manufacture of terminals under their name. Now BlackBerry just have to sit back and wait to see if the BlackBerry name is still a compelling reason to buy their terminals, or if it has been forgotten by many users after these years of unease.
