The CD dies to make way for music streaming

The headline is very clear and it is that music on CD is disappearing by leaps and bounds, all this is caused by the rise of streaming music that is taking over a large part of the market. In this sense already CDs as such have long been on their last breath, but they resist in some places to disappear altogether.

All this is something that we have been observing for years and that is that computers or cars no longer have a CD reader for a long time, in short, it was the step they were preparing to put aside CDs in music. Nowadays the sales of discs go down and there are few who buy in CD format, enjoying music on demand in streaming and anywhere.

Income leads the way

Según un IFPI report Latin America is the place where streaming music generates the most income today and the one that grew the most with 17,5%, this is followed by the United States with 12,8% and further down we find the old continent with growth of 4,3%. In this sense, we are a little behind in consumption of streaming music, but population density also influences these studies.

On the other hand, the number of subscribers to streaming music programs continues to grow year after year. During the past year 2017 there were about 112 million paying users and now it reaches a whopping 176 million subscriptionsIn addition, the income generated by the streaming industry reached 7.100 billion dollars. All this dance of figures is big, but it will continue to grow over time.
