DARPA is interested in underwater communication

DARPA

La Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, better known to all as DARPA, has just announced that one of its group of researchers had managed to develop a project, which today they are testing, capable of achieving that desired underwater communication finally come true. Undoubtedly a new advance through which it could be possible to transmit electromagnetic waves under water, something that, at least until now, was literally impossible.

As has been published, apparently these researchers funded by DARPA, would have managed to create a series of small transmitters with which electromagnetic waves can travel through water so that they can reach practically any point on the planet. As expected, the agency itself was quick to comment that, thanks to this development project for underwater communications, much more effective search and rescue missions will be created.

DARPA takes a first step towards the development of underwater communications.

In the words of Tory Olson, one of the developers and researchers who has been working on this interesting project:

If we are right and we have done things well, in the coming months we will ensure that, for example, people who are inside a submarine for work can send and receive messages from their families.

From DARPA we do not want our technology to be pigeonholed for military purposes, what we want is that everyone can enjoy underwater communication and that it have the same positive effects that it has on land.

As a final detail, I do not want to say goodbye without mentioning, as the people responsible for the development of this project have commented, that the underwater communication system proposed by DARPA still has to mature enough to get it to reach the market since, in moment, are in a very early stage. Even so, on January 6 they plan to carry out the first field tests for this new technology.
