DeepBach, a new artificial intelligence capable of composing classical music

deepbach

deepbach is the name with which they have baptized in the research laboratories of SonyCSL to his latest masterpiece, an artificial intelligence system that has been used for several months to be able to compose choral cantatas in the purest Bach style. Undoubtedly, we are facing a new advance that does nothing but corroborate the enormous potential that artificial intelligence can have today.

As they have commented through a document both Francois pachet as Gaetan Had Mujeres, responsible for the project, we are facing a neural network that has been trained using the technique of machine learning. For this, it has been fed with no less than 352 corals composed by Bach that are later transposed to other tones within a defined vocal range, thus managing to develop no less than 2.503 corals.

DeepBach, an artificial intelligence system capable of making professional musicians doubt.

Out of all this impressive amount of information, the 80% of it has been used so that the neural network itself is able to recognize harmonies while the remaining 20% is used as a validation system. Thanks to all this work, DeepBach is now able to compose melodies on its own that, unless you have a highly trained ear and know for sure if a composition is by Bach or not, can deceive you.

In the tests carried out, those responsible for DeepBach decided to develop a tool that showed two harmonies of the same melody so that a group of users could determine which of the two sounded more like Bach. The group chosen for the tests consisted of 1.600 people of which 400 were professional musicians and students. The result was that more than half of the people in the study determined that DeepBach's music was a Bach composition.

And where can DeepBach be downloaded?
