Dodocool DA158, We Review These Noise Canceling Headband Headphones

Ideally, when we are listening to music with our favorite headphones, we are not able to hear the ambient noise. For some time there have been different models on the market that have this technology that is known under the acronym ANC (Active noise control). It is also true that headband headphones that use this technology tend to have high prices. What's more, there are some recognized brands in the sector that are usually the favorite options.

Also, although they tend to sell in-ear headphones –the typical button ones–, for some years now it has not been difficult to find users using headband models for their daily trips. Hence, many of them are wireless and use technologies such as NFC or Bluetooth. And in the latter case, we have been testing for several weeks some wireless models, with good finish and sound, that have noise cancellation and that are priced below 100 euros. It's about the Dodocool DA158.

When the headphones arrived for testing, when we took them out of their shipping packaging we found a very contained box. We thought they were wrong. However, we later found out what was the reason for this size. The box in which they are presented is made of good quality cardboard and with a black design with the silhouette of the Dodocool DA158 drawn on it.

Inside we found a small carrying case that hid the headphones inside. And here was the explanation: the over-ear headphones are foldable so that they can be transported much more comfortably in this travel case that will prevent the Dodocools from receiving shocks.

Also, inside the case, in addition to the headphones and the typical warranty and instruction leaflets, it also has an interior pocket that closes with velcro and hides a charging cable and a cable to be able to use the headphones in a traditional way; that is, through a 3,5 millimeter jack.

Design and quality of materials

The Dodocool DA158 are only available in one shade: dark gray, which could be perfectly mistaken for matte black. As we have already told you, it is about headband headphones. And for these to be as comfortable as possible, both the headband and the two headphones must be well fluffy. And we must tell you that once they are in place they are very comfortable, even if you have them on for more than an hour.

On the other hand, these can be perfectly adapted to any head size, it has two rails on the sides to be able to move both headphones and thus adjust them depending on the needs. In addition, one aspect that we liked is that the displacement is somewhat hard, so we will not have to worry that the position we adopt will vary while we use them. Of course, we do not know if with the passage of time it will take some play and this supposed hardness will be lost.

The Dodocool DA158 are made of hard plastic with some elements in aluminum. The feeling we have had is that they are materials of good quality, not at all flimsy and with a piece that is liable to break with use.

Connections and controls

These Dodocool DA158 can work as a traditional over-ear headphones; that is, connected to a 3,5 mm jack or through a Bluetooth connection. In the first case, you will not need to use its integrated battery; in the second case, and understandably, it will use the capacity of your battery.

Something that we liked is that once we pair it with our mobile -both iPhone and Android-, it will appear at the top of the screen a new icon that refers to the autonomy that we have left in these headphones, something very useful to avoid getting stranded when we are on the street, for example.

On the other hand, The Dodocool DA158 has physical controls on the right ear cup. There we will find on the side the on / off / pairing button as the volume and track controls. We must say that to be able to pass tracks we need to press the volume buttons for a few seconds. And not we found it comfortable. And much less fast. In case you fail when with the pulsations we will be varying the volume of the music, podcast, etc. at all times. Meanwhile, if we turn this very earpiece we will have available the switch to activate / deactivate the noise cancellation system.

Finally, at the bottom we find both the microUSB port to charge the battery that it integrates, and the 3,5 mm jack to use it by cable. So much the 3,5mm double jack cable as the charging cable are attached in the sales package.

Sound and noise cancellation

I will start by saying that I am not a sound expert. Therefore, my ear is not as trained as I would like. However, with these Dodocools I have been able to verify that the sound via Bluetooth connection sounds really good. I have been able to test other models on the market and the difference between using them wirelessly or via cable was abysmal. In this case, there is still a difference but if you have not tried different models you may not perceive the difference as much.

On the other hand, the noise cancellation used by these Dodocool DA158s is really useful. If you activate the technology when you are not yet playing music and there is considerable silence in the environment, you will notice a change in your perception; it is as if the outside sound disappeared and as if your ears were undergoing a vacuum shutdown. To tell you - and without exaggeration - that they spoke to me while I was wearing the headphones and I was unable to hear the other person.

Last but not least, these headphones are clearly focused on use with mobile devices. And if they are smartphones, the better. Why? Well because also They have a built-in microphone and we can use them hands-free. What's more, the power button will help us hang up - pick up incoming calls.

Editor's opinion: headphones that are worth it and more for the price

You will enjoy music with these headphones; the sound is clear and classical music or OST - I prefer to test with this type of music - sounds clear and with good quality. Likewise, these Dodocool DA158 are very comfortable headphones to wear. And this is partly thanks to the good padding that it has in all its parts.

As we mentioned, that maybe the only thing that could be improved would be the track change issue without having to resort to smartphone o tablets. However, I recommend that the latter be your option if you want to be fast. Otherwise, No products found., invite you to get them and not have to go to options of more than € 150.
