It seems that the close relationship between Ebay and PayPal is nearing its end. Since this week the popular online auction page announced they were going to abandon PayPal as their main payment method after 15 years of use. Although it is not something that will happen from now on, but they will wait for the current agreement between both parties to come to an end in 2020.

It seems that Ebay has already found a substitute for the payment platform. Because they have already announced a new agreement with payment company Adyen, based in Amsterdam. So when the agreement with PayPal comes to an end, Adyen will take over.

From that moment on, PayPal will become the second payment option. Therefore, users who wish to can continue using this form of payment on the web. But, it will not have the same prominence as until now. So it is a major turnaround for the website.

At the moment it has not been mentioned how the new way of making payments on the web will be. Although, everything seems to indicate that Adyen will be integrated into Ebay. In this way, users would not have to leave the web to execute the payment. But the company has not yet commented on how it will work and if that will ultimately be the way it will work.

It is expected that this transition beginning in the second half of 2018 in the United States. Little by little it will expand to more markets around the world, which will be done in 2019. PayPal's forecasts are that By 2021, most of your customers will have transitioned to this new payment method. Although the clients will be informed at all times.

For four years now, the paths of PayPal and Ebay have been separating. So it is a decision that many were waiting for. But, already with this new decision, it seems to be clear. The paths of the two companies are definitively separated.
