All free service available on the internet does not live off the air. The servers and the people behind them must be paid for in order for them to work. Most of them live on the data they obtain from us, data that they use either to target advertising or to sell to third parties that offer us advertising according to our tastes and preferences.

Facebook added a new advertising system a couple of years ago that automatically played videos on our timeline, yes, without sound, sound that could be activated later by clicking on the video. The first problem that this advertising service offered us was that our data rate could end in a few days if the videos were activated automatically, an option that we could deactivate in the configuration.

But as we can read in The Next Web, Facebook is testing with Australian users a new way of displaying ads to draw attention to users, automatically activating the playback and sound of ads, a function that is too intrusive, at least according to my opinion, that many users will not be amused. Of course, Facebook will offer the option of deactivating the automatic sound of the ads, unless you want people to start to stop using this messaging platform.

Advertising on the internet is a bad thing for many, but the only way to be able to offer content without having to pay a subscription. But you have to take into account the type of advertising that is added to the web, if it is too intrusive and requires several clicks to access the content, the most likely thing is that the user stops visiting it, however and shows it in a side without interaction, a much less intrusive way users will appreciate it and continue visiting the page. The same will happen with Facebook, since sometimes advertising does not bother, depending on the type, but what bothers is how it is displayed.
