Firefox will mute the sound of videos that play automatically

Firefox 51

Surely on more than one occasion, you have had a good scare when you see how a mysterious sound has started to come out of your speakers, without you having done or touched anything while visiting a web page. Many are the web pages that are dedicated not only to include video ads that play automatically with sound, but also include some of their YouTube videos in autoplay.

Google Chrome started blocking these types of videos a few months ago, a feature that blocks all ads or videos where sound is turned on by default. But it is not the only browser that offers us this function, since the Mozilla Foundation, through its Firefox browser, has begun to test this type of blocking, an automatic blocking that will arrive in the next browser update.

We can see this new feature in action in the tweet published by Dale Harvey, developer at Mozilla, who shared a video showing us the feature in action. As we can see in the video, within the Firefox preferences, we can establish how we want to manage videos with automatic playback, since not everyone agrees that they are played without sound or not played directly.

In addition, when accessing a website that shows a video with automatic playback and the sound activated, the browser will block it automatically, but will give us the option to change the settings manually without entering the browser preferences. The preference that we have selected will be kept for future visits we make to the web page in question, in this way, Firefox allows us to establish which web can play videos automatically with the sound activated and which cannot.
