Firefox will stop supporting Windows XP and Vista in September 2017

Every time a new operating system is released, many are the developers who put the countdown to stop supporting older versions. As a general rule, the support time does not extend much but there are several factors that can influence the company's decision. The first and foremost is the number of users who continue to use it. Windows XP, despite having been on the market for 16 years, is still present in a large number of computers today, thanks to the compatibility and stability of the system. However, Windows Vista, which went unnoticed by the PC world a few years later, barely has a significant user share.

The Mozilla corporation has just announced that the Firefox browser will continue to offer support to all those users who continue to use Windows XP or Windows Vista until September of next year, so if you have a computer with this operating system, it may be time to think about renewing your device, since the versions for both operating systems will stop receiving updates so they will be vulnerable to all future security problems detected since that date.

This decision only affects public users, since the entities that are part of the Extender Support Release, will continue to get support with future updates. This program is intended for both companies and educational centers, where a large number of computers continue to use these versions of Windows and where it is cheaper to hire this type of support than to replace all PCs. The ESR is a program very similar to the one that Microsoft continues to offer mainly to some governments where Windows XP is still the king of computing and at the moment there is no intention of updating the equipment.
