FM Radio begins to die, Norway is a pioneer in cutting emissions

FM radio has less and less audience. In spite of everything, it is a means of communication that seems almost essential, however, for this we continue to maintain AM radio, we might think. Norway wanted to be a pioneer in the blackout of the FM radio, it has started with a phased process that will last throughout the year 2017. It is an almost mandatory step that other countries of the European Union are beginning to consider, as digital radio is gaining more and more prominence, and will soon become the only radio medium that we can take advantage of.

In Norway they have started in the province of Nordland, in the north of the country, where FM radio broadcasts have been eradicated and they will only be able to listen to programming broadcast via digital radio. This digital radio is much more suitable in signal output and content, which would significantly increase the range of action, among many other advantages that we can intuit. In this way, in Norway they will no longer update the old FM radio installations and can be replaced by more effective digital radio systems, and above all, with a lower energy consumption than that offered by FM radio stations.

Every time we cut more ties with the analog era and the arrival of a totally digital era is closer. This change is economically important, and it is that digital radio shown up to eight times cheaper to maintain and issue than FM radio (according to the Norwegian Government). However, we say goodbye to hundreds of thousands of FM radio receivers that will stop working, however, the Norwegian Government gave a considerable deadline, it is a promotional measure since 2015, despite the fact that it has cost a little hitch of ears by the population. The next country to announce the termination of FM radio has been Switzerland, which will abandon it in 2020.
