Google's facilities in Chile are entirely powered by solar energy

Google

One of the large companies that shows its interest in renewable energy and above all for not contributing to the increase in the temperature of the Earth, not only with publications and writings, but also with acts, Google. A very clear proof of everything that has gone is in the new facilities that the company has just inaugurated in Quilicura (Chile). We are talking about their offices and a new datacenter whose electricity consumption comes from the solar energy.

According to the company itself and those responsible for the titanic project, it seems that this has been possible thanks to the agreement reached by the company with the Spanish company. Acciona Energy so that the US company can make use of 80 MW of energy extracted entirely from the El Romero photovoltaic plant, which is located exactly in the Atacama desert, about 645 km north of Santiago.

Google's offices and datacenter in Chile will use only solar energy to function.

This huge facility is capable of producing up to 93 GWh of renewable energy from the sun annually, this translates into emissions savings of 474.000 tons of CO2. To obtain this enormous amount of electrical energy, about 1,5 million square meters of solar panels have been needed, making this photovoltaic plant the largest of its kind in all of Latin America.

Undoubtedly, a new step that demonstrates Google's commitment to this type of action, although, according to the company itself, this will not remain in this act but, At the end of this year, 2017 they want all their operations to be 100% free of carbon emissions. According to a statement issued by Google itself:

Science tells us that fighting climate change is an urgent global priority. We believe that the private sector, in collaboration with political leaders, must take bold action and that we can do so in a way that is conducive to growth and opportunity.
