Google will shut down its address shortener in a few days

When it comes to sharing a web address, especially if it is too long and occupies not only a large number of space but also does not offer us at a glance information that may be relevant to us, the most advisable thing, especially if we want to share it on Twitter, is to shorten it using a web service.

One of the most used around the world is Google, a service that not only stores all the addresses that we have shortened to show us statistics, but also shows us a preview of it when it has been shortened, to ensure that it has carried out the process successfully. As announced by Google, we have to start saying goodbye to this service.

The service to shorten web addresses will stop working on April 13 for all those users who have never used it through their Google account, so Google is not aware that it is of interest to us.

But if you regularly use this service, and you do it through your Google account, the guys from Mountain View know it and for these cases, the search engine company It will give us one more year to be able to look for alternatives, specifically until March 30, 2019. Once the service stops working, all the links that had previously been created with this service will continue to function without any problem.

Google claims that it is reducing support for goo.gl in favor of Firebase Dynamic Links, unique links that can lead to different destinations depending on the type of device from which it is accessed. But Firebase Dynamic Links are not a substitute for goo.gl short links, and they are not something that anyone can use as if it happened with Google's address shortener, since it is only aimed at developers. The search engine company recommends the URL shortening services Bit.ly and Ow.ly as more direct substitutes.
