A group of hackers steals more than 65 million dollars from BitFinex

bitcoin theft from BitFinex

Although bitcoin as such is not yet very well defined, that is, it is not known if it is a product, an investment vehicle or directly money as such, the truth is that there have been many small investors who have opted for this cryptocurrency attracted by its bullish value. All this interest could quickly change after the theft of more than 65 million dollars, at current value, perpetrated by a group of hackers on a Hong Kong exchange platform.

As it has transpired, it seems that hackers have managed to get hold of 119.756 bitcoins after making illegitimate access to the exchange site BitFinex, in turn, one of the largest in the world. One of the first actions by the site has been to notify all its users of the existence of a security breach, after its repair, it is now trying to find out which users have lost part of their bitcoins and the amount.

They steal more than 65 million dollars in Bitcoins taking advantage of a security breach in BitFinex.

Based on the words issued in a statement by those responsible for BitFinex:

We are investigating the security breach to determine what has happened, but we know that some users' bitcoins have been stolen. We are conducting a review to determine which users have been affected by the illegitimate access.

Without a doubt, a hard blow for bitcoin that has seen how, in just 24 hours, its value has fallen by about 20% now standing in the $ 480 per bitcoin. Unsurprisingly, there are many voices looking for a way to create a more restrictive regulation on safety and security.
