How to disable background updates on iPhone

iOS 7 brought many new features not only merely aesthetic changes, where Steve Jobs skeumorphism was put aside to adopt John Ive's flat design. The first weeks many users were not satisfied with the new design adopted by Apple to rename the operating system for iOS. But over time, the initial complaints faded to the point where there are hardly any discordant voices with the design.

One of the novelties, a priori important, was the background updates, which allows applications to be updated even if we are not using them, so that each time we access we will have the most current information available in our application. But, there is always a but, the battery consumption suffers too much, as well as the mobile data rate that we have contracted.

With the arrival of iOS 8 a few days ago, this problem remains unsolved, despite the fact that the new iPhone models (6 and 6 Plus) have a higher capacity battery that would allow us, on special occasions, to enable this option in some applications. But not. Battery consumption is still exaggerated, not to mention data consumption. Fortunately we can deactivate them completely or leave only a few applications but limited in time if we do not want our battery to discharge in a few hours.

Disable background updates

  • We head up Settings.
  • Inside Settings we look for the third block of options and click on General.
  • Next we go to the bottom of the menu and click on Background update.
  • All the applications that are enabled to make use of the updates will be displayed continuously. To deactivate all the updates we will click on the first option Refresh in the background to disable the tab.

If I disable these automatic updates, do I still receive notifications from the apps?
I await your response thank you very much.

Applications ignore and update the same even if the configuration says otherwise. Bad, very bad!
