Instead of having to design an icon in some specialized tool due to the hard work it could represent, a better alternative is to try capture those who are part of some executable or some library on Windows.
It is worth mentioning that at no time would you be plagiarizing said design, since most of these icons are in common use although, if you must be careful with those that are different since they could have copyright. In order to extract the icon that is part of any of these files, we will rely on a free tool, which has the name of Icons from File and it runs on 32-bit or 64-bit Windows.
Processing our files to get the icon in Windows
The tool Icons from File can be downloaded from its official site through the link that we have placed previously. It is not portable, and therefore must be installed in our operating system; Once we have proceeded with this task, we only have to execute it to find its interface, which presents a fairly great simplicity when working with different types of files in Windows.
Even though the tool has a built-in file importer, the best alternative is open a file explorer window, locate the one in which we are interested, select it and drag it to the Icons from File window.
Immediately the icon of the file we have selected will appear; in the lower part (specifically towards the right side) its dimensions will appear in pixels; the only thing we need to do to finish our process is to have to save this icon in some location on our hard drive, being able to select between different formats when exporting it. You can choose between the original format (.ico) and other conventional ones, there being one in HTML that you could use to integrate it into web pages.
