Instagram now allows blocking comments and spam

Instagram

One of the main problems I had Instagram, or at least one of the problems that practically the entire community that uses the platform used to complain about the most, was the mere fact that there was no form of power block all those offensive messages that many users tend to be indiscriminately distributing through all kinds of profiles, for example, or being able to block spam.

As you well know, especially if you are a user of the platform, for quite some time there has been a possible solution to this problem and it goes through completely disable comments of your publications, a fairly radical action that is far from serving as a true solution to one of the most serious problems that any large social network usually faces.

Instagram has just announced that you will finally be able to block offensive comments and even spam on its social network

Despite the fact that as a user this is a problem that we all have to face, the truth is that it can be something terrible for users with thousands of followers who are the ones who really have to suffer this type of people who, from security and anonymity that the internet can give them, they tend to write quite offensive comments only like 'distraction'.

If we side with the user who owns the account who receives these offensive comments, the truth is that it can pose a problem, both personally and for the platform, since normally these types of users finally, seeing themselves defenseless, choose considerably reduce your activity and even by leaving the platform, without a doubt the most negative part for a social network in general and Instagram in particular.

With all this in mind, it is not surprising that Instagram has finally got down to work and its engineers have developed a new functionality through which now if that any user will stop feeling offended by this type of comment Since, as far as possible, they will disappear along with everything that Instagram itself classifies as spam.

As he commented Kevin Systrom, co-founder and current CEO of the well-known social network, on the official Instagram blog:

Many of you have told us that toxic Instagram comments discourage you from enjoying Instagram and expressing yourself freely. To help with that, we have developed a filter that blocks certain offensive comments in photos and live videos.

Instagram will use artificial intelligence systems to moderate all kinds of offensive comments or spam

The idea is as simple as using a filter based on Artificial Intelligence, something in turn very similar to what Facebook is using today and that will be available to all Instagram users. As a detail, tell you that this time you will not have to activate anything if you want to use it since it will be active by default.

Now in case you want disable this functionality or see if you really have it active and it is working for your profile, tell you that you just have to enter the menu Settings, select the option Comments and now you can see something similar to what is shown in the image located just below these lines.

As for its operation, the only thing as a user you will have to do is make sure, as we have already mentioned, that this option is active for your profile since the new comment filter works completely automatically and transparently for you, that is to say, you will not have to do absolutely anything.

As a final detail, just tell you that, at least for now, this new Instagram functionality tstill only available in english version of the tool, although it is planned, at least it has been reported from the social network itself, that the version in Spanish, Chinese, French, German, Arabic, Japanese, Russian and Portuguese will reach production in the coming days.
