Konami loses the Champions League to PES, the video game downhill and without brakes

The worst time of Pro Evolution Soccer with the era of the largest spending ever seen on video games. This is how Electronic Arts has been able to make profitable and a lot its saga FIFA, becoming in the last five years one of the games that sells the most copies while generating millions of dollars in deferred income.

The last stick that could prove a fatal blow to Pro Evolution Soccer and Konami in soccer games would be the termination of the contract with UEFA that guarantees the licenses of the Champinos League. and that apparently the football organization has not the slightest intention of renewing.

The last event that both firms will work on together will presumably be the final of the European Champions Cup to be held in Kiev. This association has lasted about ten years and it seems that it has already said enough. What we don't know is the real reason, so we wouldn't be surprised if Electronic Arts' offer to add UEFA Champions League marketing and licensing to FIFA be the main reason. FIFA is making a lot of money with Ultimate Team packs and the Champions League would be a good incentive for the future.

It has been through a statement signed by UEFA itself on its official website where it has confirmed that the licensing agreement with Konami y Pro Evolution Soccer will conclude after the next Champions League final in Kiev:

It has been a cooperative and mutually beneficial association. UEFA would like to thank Konami for their tremendous commitment and support to UEFA club competitions over the past decade and we look forward to continuing to work with Konami in the field of UEFA football.

We will be on the lookout for the upcoming E3 in case EA has something to say about FIFA 19.
