Movistar puts an end to the Yomvi brand and continues its homogenization

Movistar is working to simplify its entire range of products. The acquisition of Canal + España brought with it the most popular on-demand content system, Yomvi, and this has continued until recently. However, they are working to put an end to this fragmentation of products, they will unify their television offer under the same brand, thus avoiding possible confusion among users. Yomvi has disappeared from both the website and the company's social networksFrom now on we will only find it as the name of the applications for smart devices.

Although this will be temporary, it is a matter of time before the logos and interface of the Yomvi application are also changed, and the reality is that we were surprised that Movistar had taken so long to take this important step, definitively eliminating Yomvi as we know it, and integrating it among the rest of its contents. Now, If we try to enter the Yomvi web portal, we will be redirected to a Movistar web page, although the service for now remains exactly the same, a relevant facelift so as not to raise doubts among users, basically. All its television products, whether live or on demand, online or via satellite, will be included in its new Movistar + brand.

Telefónica (we do put the tick on it) is working hard to unify the systems, to begin with, Canal + has been replaced, which became # 0, and now, the channels dedicated to football or that contained the prefix Canal +, have passed to be called Movistar, being such that on the screen:

  • Movistar Soccer
  • Movistar great match
  • Movistar Premieres
  • Movistar Cinema
  • Movistar Action

Although we found an exception to all this, the bullfighting content offered by Canal + Toros and which has now been renamed Toros TV, if the prefix Movistar. We suppose that to try to unlink the brand from bullfighting, due to the negative connotations that this can cause among many users and groups

Yomvi for reference, Netflix and HBO are mere viewers

Netflix subscription

Yomvi is not what it is because it was the first, which it was, but because Prisa sold almost all of Canal + to Telefónica in June 2015, and with it Yomvi. Movistar has exclusive plans for endless content in Spain, starting with Netflix series and even HBO, which has prevented these brands from deploying their applications and offers here in Spain in a state of equality. Movistar, with this change, goes on to present itself a little more like these two previous ones, as a very versatile content producer and distributor, adapted to the new times, leaving behind the old-fashioned and harsh perspective that many had of Movistar. And the reality is that the monopoly of this ex-public company in Spain is considerable, due to the quality of its exclusive content, above all.

The platform currently has 3,7 million subscribers, More than 15.000 titles between series and movies and an application that does not measure up, let's be honest, Yomvi does not work as expected from this application on most devices, not even on iOS. Anyway, from Movistar they have promised to update it, and after the summer we will find a new section in charge of combining the catalog according to our visual and content preferences.

Meanwhile, we do not know how long the exclusivity of content will last, remember that HBO is preparing its arrival in Spain, and with it the most popular series of the moment, Game of Thrones. We still do not know if the next season of Game of Thrones will be broadcast on Movistar + or will be broadcast only by the HBO offer, which will cause a fluctuation of users, which in Spain will probably be solved directly by the fast track, that of going to web pages with audiovisual content of dubious morality. We will continue to wait to see how the development of Yomvi progresses, its possible new application and the arrival of competitors in Spain to tighten the nuts on Movistar.
