My first ten hours with Titanfall

More than 75 awards at E3, as many at Gamescom and the widespread praise from the press and the public who had been able to see or play live endorsed the newness of Respawn Entertainment, creators of sagas and titles such as Medal Honor, Call of Duty 2 and, above all, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, a game that has set a whole generation of shooters, setting the bar so high that we could say that none of its successors has managed to achieve it.

Since Friday I have been able to try Titanfall thanks to the beta offered by Respawn and EA and that, from now on, is open to everyone who wants to try this new title. I have been able to play the three modes and the two maps that this forward offers and my impressions are really satisfactory. Of course, as almost always, the game has its imperfections to polish. After the jump, my reflections and thoughts on what I saw and played.

The first thing that catches your attention is how fluid everything goes, and I am not referring to the rate of images per second (it runs at 60FPS almost all the time) but to how the parkour sections are chained (or wall running), double jumps thanks to jetpack and fighting on the back of a titan. Everything is really well built and linked and, above all, it knows how to seem like a really fresh and novel experience, with a background already known and to which we will adapt without too much effort.

Technically this is where the game falters the most; the source Engine The one around which it has been developed has been behind him for ten years and despite the fact that the stages are of considerable size and there is a lot of movement during each game, this aspect could have been refined and defined much more, giving the game a greater technical packaging.

But, honestly, it is difficult to reach the technical aspect of the game during a game since thanks to the flow already commented, one does not stop moving and being active in a title tremendously fun and addictive which is, after all, what is most noteworthy. We are talking about a beta capable in terms of content (two maps, 3 modes, a titan, etc.) and, despite this, one cannot stop playing, trying different variations of our soldiers or titans, trying new tactics, etc. .

One of the most controversial points since its announcement was the fact that the games are for a maximum of 12 real players, in confrontations 6vs6, complemented by the different bots that will help each team and whose purpose, given their terrible AI, is to be riddled with, in this way, shorten the time needed to request a titan.

On a map with Angel City, urban and focused on short distances, the number seems adequate and, perhaps, what is out of tune are the up to five titans per team that can be had at the same time, making everything around us a little more chaotic. On the other hand, in Fracture, the other map of the beta, more open and extensive, it is more than common to mill around the terrain without finding any other pilots (that's what human players are called) and missing a larger number of total players. Personally, I think that an 8v8 and even a 10v10 would have been great for the game; a real shame Respawn doesn't think the same.

Rumors and leaks suggest that the final game will include 14 maps. If we take into account the size of these and, let's cross our fingers, we assume that their design level will be of the excellent level seen in the beta, it will be a more than decent and remarkable number. Another song are those six modes that have been extracted from the beta code, without any type of innovation beyond the somewhat heavy Last Titan Standing of the beta and offering two as similar as attrition and a fight to the death.

All this, as we say, is nothing more than speculation, because until the launch day we will not know for sure the number of maps, modes, weapons and others with which we will find. We cross our fingers so that we find enough variety to stay glued to the game for a long time, always having something to achieve or unlock.

El Winners will be announced in March is just around the corner and today I have more desire than yesterday.
