Although it may seem the opposite, the truth is that there are many asteroids that each year pass very close to the Earth, some are detected long in advance while others, unfortunately, until they are practically not above us are not detected by agencies, scientists, astrologers ..., in short, people who have their eyes fixed on the sky practically every day, something that can be a very worrying issue and to which we should be able to solve as soon as possible.
NASA seeks to develop a program for early detection and action in the face of the threat that a meteorite may impact the Earth
With this in mind, it is not surprising that there have been several leaders of NASA who have decided to meet with several of the space agencies with the most power and presence of today to implement a common plan that has been baptized with the curious name of Planetary Defense Initiative, in which we will try to find out the best way to defend ourselves against the possibility of an asteroid impacting our planet and unleashing a catastrophe of the same magnitude as the one that finally ended the dinosaurs.
One of the main objectives of this program, which is being intensively promoted by NASA today, is to establish a rapid response plan in case we are seriously threatened by the detection of a meteorite that can cross the Earth's trajectory at any given time. At this very moment, all the alarms should go off and the aforementioned action plan should be launched, although, for now, it is not very clear what action to take.
On October 12, the first test of this program will take place

Before this, there are many tests that must be carried out to be very clear about how we should act in the face of a real threat that can end life on Earth.
Among the first tests that will be carried out, highlight the one that will take place next 12th of October, date in which a quite important deployment of forces has been orchestrated to carry out a drill that should show us what will happen in the face of a threat that is real. Going a little deeper into this issue, it should be noted that the test that will be carried out will be limited solely to checking whether the action protocols that should already be defined at this time are working, especially those related to communication between the different space agencies.
The main idea of this program is trying to find a way to deviate the path of a possible asteroid hundreds of meters in diameter.
Another very different thing is to implement a secure and iron defense system, something that in turn would involve eliminating an asteroid in space with a projectile attack, something that could be feasible depending on the size of the asteroid itself or, following the path marked by NASA and the other agencies, try to divert the trajectory thereof.
Whatever the proposal, the truth is that at the moment, and with the technology we have today, the truth is that it is literally impossible to ride a ship equipped with enough firepower to carry out this mission, even more so if we consider that we are talking about meteorites with a diameter of hundreds of meters.
