What's new in Android 6.0 Marshmallow, fingerprint support

NEWS ANDROID 6 Fingerprint support

The fingerprint support of Android 6.0 Marshamallow is one of the most anticipated novelties of the new Google operating system, After several manufacturers, including Samsung in their Galaxy S5 and S6 included it, this functionality has become one of the most demanded by users.

The vast majority of manufacturers were already joining the initiative before the new Android operating system appeared and they began to mount the necessary hardware to perform this task on their phones. Manufacturers also developed layers of software to implement the new fingerprint recognition function., but with the arrival of Marshmallow, this is a responsibility that Google monopolizes from now on.

Fingerprint support functionalities.

The initial functionalities that Google offers us with its new support are mainly three, unlocking, API to use in applications, and purchases in the Play Store, although in the future we will find new ways to use this technology.

Unlocking Until now it was the main advantage of having a fingerprint reader and it allows us to quickly access the content of our terminal without having to draw a pattern or enter a password or a pin. The use of the pattern or password is still highly recommended in combination with the fingerprint sensor.

Android will store our fingerprint so that the shopping in Play Store are more comfortable for us to perform, it is important for Google that everything is very simple and safe when we make purchases in the Play Store, since this application store is one of the main sources of financing for the company.

La API for developers is one of the new functionalities and surely the most important, and that is that Goolge has prepared a development interface so that all application creators can access and use the fingerprint security functionalities, opening a new dimension for all App that require authentication.

Will we never have to remember a password again?

There is still time for this, and in the short term a password can never be completely replaced by a biometric sensor of these characteristics since our fingerprints can suffer temporary or even permanent damages, and we would need a traditional method to verify our identity.

Think that the key is not in technology only but in the use we make of it, so new ways to verify our identity will continue to appear more secure, reliable and with more verification procedures. But this technology, which in the movies was relegated to panels in large armored doors located at mega-company headquarters, is now integrated into our smartphones and we use it daily.

Hello, my note 4 has just been updated to Android 6.0 and I have a problem to be able to put the screen unlock with the fingerprint. I already have my fingerprint engraved, but when I go to put that lock it asks me for an alternative password and when I try it tells me, sorry, try again. And there is no way, put the one that does not let me.

A big question I have is that the fingerprint support must be integrated into the hardware or not, just by having android marshmallow ??? : d
