Nintendo Classic Mini, we tested the Nintendo mini console

Nintendo surprised by announcing the Nintendo Classic Minia reduced version of the company's first desktop game console, the well-known NES or Famicom in Japan and that will allow us to once again enjoy 30 of the best games of this emblematic console.

Now, although the console will officially hit the market on November 11 at a price of 60 euros, we bring you our first impressions after testing the new console of the Japanese giant Nintendo NES - Console ...that you can already buy here. »/]Don't miss our video review of the Nintendo Classic Mini!

Nintendo Classic Mini has the same design as the original NES, although in a smaller format

Nintendo Classic Mini from above

As you have seen, aesthetically identical to the original NES from 1985 although the Nintendo Classic Mini is noticeably smaller, fitting in the palm of one hand, and weighing really little. The other big difference is that there is no slot for cartridges since the games are already pre-installed in the console and we will not be able to expand its catalog.

The design is simple but effective. In this way, on the back of the NES Mini we we will find an HDMI output to connect the console to your screen or television (the cable is included in the pack) and another USB port for power. Be careful, this USB output is only to use the charger that comes with the console, so we do not recommend using another charger other than the one officially supplied when buying the console.

The sides of the Nintendo Classic Mini are where the air vents have been located, while on the front we have the the turn on and turn off button console in addition to the button to reset it.

El NES Mini controller features the same design as the original: the well-known crosshead that will allow us to move up, down or to the sides in addition to the A, B, Select and Start buttons. The feeling in the hand is quite pleasant remembering the original control. Buttons offer good travel and a durable feel. To put one downside, say that the control cable is very short so we will have to have the console near us to play, a detail that I did not like.

A simple and very effective interface

Nintendo Classic Mini

El menu Nintendo NES Mini is quite simple and intuitive. In the options menu we can change the language (available in English, French, Dutch, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and Russian) in addition to the legal information and the manuals of the games.

One of the great sufferings of the players of the time came with the fact that a large number of games did not allow saving the game at any time. With Nintendo Classic Mini things change since we can save the game at any time. Even the games save from time to time automatically in case they end up killing you. To load a saved game is as simple as going to the main menu and opening the "suspension points" section where we can load our saved games.

Here I am personally a pure nostalgic and I consider it a heresy to be able to save the game at any time, although calm that if I am a retro Taliban like me you will be able to continue saving the games as normal when the game of turn allows it.

To say that the movement through the different menus of the console are performed very smoothly and I have not noticed any lag at any time. Even turning on the console will surprise you with its speed of reaction. Although it is also logical considering the technical requirements necessary to move these games.

A gaming experience that will delight Nintendo fans

Nintendo Classic Mini interface

Nintendo has not chosen the 30 classics that come pre-installed in the Nintendo Classic Mini at random, but the manufacturer has wanted to offer a variety of styles that allow us to alternate swords with Link, going on to save the princess with Mario until we reach the Double Dragon. A very complete list that you may like more or less, I personally miss the odd game, but it must be recognized that it is quite varied and interesting

As there are no loading times, the gaming experience is really good. In addition, the fact of being able to connect an original Nintendo NES controller or even a Wii remote makes things easier if you want to play with another friend. Of course, keep in mind that you can only connect a Wii remote since one of the ports always has to be connected to the original remote that comes with the console.

I have been able to try several games, Mario Bros and Double Dragon and the experience has been exactly the same as when I first tried them on my beloved Nintendo NES, allowing me to reminisce about old fun times. Although my sore thumbs after hours of pounding buttons are not as strong as before. Callus will come out ...

NES controller

Finally I want to make a very clear topic:  I have played hundreds of Nintendo games with emulators so I understand that many of you will ask yourself why pay for this console when they come "only" 30 games if you can play any Nintendo video game for free by searching the internet and using an emulator. Here comes the choice of each one.

Personally the fact of being able replay these games on a Nintendo console, I can take it anywhere since it's really small and being able to dust off my old NES controller, it still works! It more than compensates the 60 euros it costs.

I said, a surprising console and that I am sure will become the main protagonist of this Christmas. What are you waiting for to reserve your Nintendo Classic NES!
