Nokia to buy Unium to improve performance and home Wi-Fi coverage

Nokia continues with its plans and announced the possible purchase of Unium, this is a software company specialized in wireless networks for use in homes through Wi-Fi connectivity. In this case, the coverage and performance of home networks and the purchase of Unium could be closed during the same first quarter of 2018.

This will improve connectivity in homes and, above all, what stands out in this regard, the connected home or the smart home. For this, many steps, devices and technologies were seen at the MWC, but the main one is to have good connectivity within the home and therefore it is best to get hold of specialized companies in this regard, Nokia is making progress with the purchase of Unium.

According to his own account Federico Guillén, President of Nokia Fixed Networks Group:

Unium software and smart mesh wireless technology complement and strengthen Nokia's comprehensive home Wi-Fi solution and support Nokia's strategic goal of solving home Wi-Fi issues. Unium will bring Nokia's field-proven carrier-grade mesh technology that helps maximize wireless network speeds in the home and ensures a quality whole-home experience. Its underlying technology has already been tested and used in a number of applications where high availability, performance, and resilience are essential.

In addition, Guillén himself explained to the media that the solution for connectivity in homes is to focus on these technologies and therefore the Nokia showed interest in buying Unium. Both are expected to start their smart home rollout, which is why the stronger the home Wi-Fi network the better. Unium software is intelligent and adapts to the needs and specific performance for each device we have at home, thus optimizing connections offering a better experience for each user.

The purchase has yet to be officially confirmed even though everything is almost closed, it also remains to be seen the price Nokia has paid or will pay for the company, although it may not be officially published in the media.
