Paper planes from your smartphone to get anywhere on the planet

Active Theory has developed Paper Planes, an app that emerged from Google I / O 2016 and is among the experimental apps highlighted by Google from a website dedicated to it. The concept of the app is that you launch a virtual paper plane that you can make it fly around the globe.

The great peculiarity of launching the paper plane is that you can stamp the seal of your province so that when someone "hunts" your plane, they can print yours and make it fly again across the entire planet. In this way, there are virtually tens of thousands of paper airplanes that cross every location on the planet.

The app is on the page Android Experiments from Google and can be downloaded from Google Play itself Store. The objective of Paper Planes is for these paper airplanes to become a link between all those people who are in different locations on the planet to create an instant connection between them.

Paper Planes

That 3D world is rendering in WebGL by using the three.js library and it takes advantage of instances and WebWorkers to calculate and render the thousands of airplanes that are flying around the planet. When a plane is launched, it can be caught at any time at random. Once this is done, a push notification appears in Android N that shows how far it has come with the stamp or seal of the site from which it was launched.

It prints its own, it bends and is thrown again. A website locates all the nearby planes to see them or even admire how it soars through the skies through that 3D rendered globe. An ingenious and surprising idea to get closer to knowing locations in other parts of the planet that you would not even think of existed.
