If you have ever had problems with the connection of your computer, that is, you have suffered from those occasions in which your machine is fluid but you cannot connect to the internet or the network access is very slow, a very simple and helpful technique is usually used, especially in very large companies and local networks, such as looking 'if there is ping'to discover if the problem is precisely on your PC or on the contrary is the connection.
This is something that you can do in a very simple way, you just have to open a terminal, in Windows all the options go to Start, Run and there write cmd. This action will open a terminal or in the Microsoft operating system 'Symbol of the system'. Once it starts we just have to write: ping www.google.es
With this simple command we will verify not only that our computer has access to the google server, in the case of this example, but also that we will be able to see the speed with which it connects and gets response from it. In the case of a local network we could also do the same except that, instead of writing www.google.es, we should insert the address of the machine against which we want to check that there is a connection.
Having a high ping can cause your game to slow down and appear to be playing in slow motion
As you can see, ping is a very interesting tool to check not only that a computer has access to the internet, but also its accessibility on an internal network. On the other hand, this utility not only stays here but, when executing it, as you can see in the image of the header of this same entry, the result is a list of the time it takes that server to respond, something that, when playing online, is usually something that can literally turn us upside down.
I say this for a very simple reason and that you will surely understand if you have ever played an online game. Let's put ourselves in context for a moment, we are playing our favorite game, Call of Duty, League of Legends ... to put a couple of games where this has happened to me personally, and suddenly it seems that everything the game slows down, something that makes it literally impossible for you to continue playing and even to be killed at that point where it seems that you have everything under control. We usually get mad at our computer although, in the vast majority of cases, everything is due precisely to ping very high.
This is a very simple way to understand that, the higher the ping, the worse the results obtained since the access speed between our network and the remote server to which we connect to play is very low, so the responses expected by the program to continue playing make the game seems to go in slow motion. However… How can we solve this problem?
Avoid as much as possible having other programs consuming bandwidth on your network
Today there are several ways to solve the fact of having a very high ping and all of them go through that the performance of the team is adequate, that is, while we are playing there is no program behind us stealing resources, we talk about those many occasions in which we start playing online and we have, at the same time, running streaming programs on our computer such as Skype, Netflix or similar and even the odd torrent application, something that in turn, also influences the point of the connection quality, something that is also critical and that these programs, in the end, will steal a lot of bandwidth, also limiting the speed with which you connect. Finally, I would like to comment on the section of the cablingIt is not the same to connect by WiFi network, with all its interferences, than with an RJ45 cable directly to the router. At this point, it should be noted that we must also take into account the type of cable and its length, the greater the length, the more signal loss and the more economical the cable, the less protection against electromagnetic fields.
If all this does not work for you, it is usually very useful to remove the antivirus from your computer and create a good plan for opening ports for the firewall in order to determine which programs and which cannot access the internet. Finally, it is really the last thing I would do, it would be to improve the connection by installing a new broadband router specially dedicated and designed for this type of task.
