VIDEOS ON MAC AND IPAD

A coworker has bought a new iPad mini Retina and today he asked me to help him understand a little about the operation of the system he owns, iOS 7.

Within the bank of questions he asked me, of course, the question of how to be able to watch videos on the iPad and in what formats did it have to have them came. Today, in this post, we are going to explain in great detail a very simple option.

When you arrive in the world of Apple it can be through a Mac and an iDevice or simply through an iDevice. Normally, those who come to the company buying an iDevice, end up closing the ecosystem with a Mac and Apple TV. In this case, my colleague owns a MacBook Pro and has now acquired the iPad, and that is why this post will talk about the application for iPad and Mac that connect wonderfully.

Let's start by explaining that both on a Mac and an iDevices, whether it is an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch, the video format that we must use are those supported by Apple systems, .m4v, .mp4 or .mov. However, most of the videos that we can find on the net are .avi o .divx among others. The fact is that to be able to reproduce those videos in Apple products we will have to convert them to another format or do what I have explained to my partner. The best option, to avoid wasting time in format conversions, is to find an application for both Mac and iOS that allows you to play most of the existing video formats without having to convert them. Those apps are MPlayerX for Mac, which you can find in the Mac App Store for free and through which you will be able to play any type of video file format on your Mac without any problems.

MPLAYER ON OSX

On the iPad for its part, we have to go through the box with its equivalent for this platform, it is the application yxplayer at a price of 3.59 €.

SUPPORTED FORMATS

The process is very simple. In the case of your Mac, just download it from the Mac App Store and once installed, go to the video file that you want to open in this application, right-click on the file and select from the pop-up menu To open with… and you choose MPlayerX.

For the iPad, the steps you must follow are as follows:

  • Locate the video files on your computer that you want to send to the iPad.
  • Download the Yxplayer application from the App Store. Once downloaded, connect your iPad to the computer, be it PC or Mac and open iTunes.

ITUNES SCREEN

  • The iPad you have connected appears in the left sidebar. Click on the name of the iPad so that the characteristics of your iPad appear in the central window.
  • In the upper bar of the central window select the Applications tab. And once you are in that window, go down until at the bottom of it you reach the application area for file exchange. You will be able to see on the left an area where the Yxplayer application is located, and when you click on it, what is saved inside it appears in the right window.
  • Now you just have to drop the video files you deem appropriate into that window, which are transferred to the iPad immediately. When they finish playing, you disconnect the iPad, enter the application and you can now enjoy your videos without having to convert them.

SHARE FILES WINDOW

  • To delete videos from the Yxplayer application from the iPad, you can do it from the iPad itself or in iTunes in the window in which you have added the files, selecting them and pressing the backspace key on the keyboard.

As you have been able to read, the process is very simple in both cases, so we encourage you to lose the same of the videos on the iPad and practice with the LITE version of Yxplayer.
