Robots begin to arrive in supermarkets

A couple of days ago, we talked about the robot Sofía, a robot with Artificial Intelligence that had managed to be the first to obtain citizenship of a country, specifically Saudi Arabia, a country where respect for fundamental rights on the part of its population conspicuous by its absence.

Now it's time to talk about another type of robot, a robot that has been presented by the supermarket giant Walmart and that will be in charge of walking the aisles of the supermarket to check product availability in addition to taking care of inventory when appropriate.

This new robot, manufactured by the Bossa Nova Robotics company, will begin to circulate among the customers of the 50 stores that will receive it soon. This robot, which does not have human appearance, It is composed of three cameras, different laser sensors and a 3D mapping system to be able to move around the store independently, a system very similar to the one found in robot vacuum cleaners that have become popular in recent years.

As it obtains the information of each product, it transmits it in real time which is responsible for analyze whether the product stock they are sufficient according to the sales of the same, so that, if necessary, it can place the corresponding order automatically. It is also responsible for checking if the products are on their corresponding shelf and if the price indicated on the label is the one that really corresponds.

This robot will facilitate online shopping, since at all times it will allow know if the products are available and what is your number when placing the order. Wallmart says that by adopting these robots, you will be able to spend your time improving customer relations instead of dedicating yourself to less superfluous tasks that can be done by robots.

As is often the case when a company begins to adopt robots to replace the labor of some employees, Walmart claims that there will be no layoffs, something very difficult to believe when the work that 5 employees currently perform in a slower way, can be done by a robot in much less time and without making mistakes.
