In practically every market sector there is usually that 'war'hidden among the different companies in their tireless search to be the biggest and most capable in any situation that arises, incidentally, if along the way they can end the existence of any of them, much better. When we talk about Samsung we have to understand that we do it on a highly diversified company that, thanks to its enormous benefits, it can afford the great luxury of investing in several of its different subsidiaries to go one step further and position itself as the largest and most powerful in all the markets in which it operates.

With this in mind, it is much easier to understand that the Samsung division responsible for the development of storage units wants, like many of the other divisions of the company, to be at the top in terms of the power and capacity that any of its discs can offer, something that finally becomes the interest of users and companies that end up betting on using them. On this occasion, this very special division of Samsung, has managed to be news thanks to the launch of called as World's Largest Capacity SSD Drive.

Samsung surprises us with the presentation of a 30'72 TB SSD hard drive

As a detail, tell you that Samsung, already last year, managed to have one of its units classified precisely as the highest capacity in the world. After a year of work they have managed to go from 15'36 TB which at that time offered its most powerful SSD drive to 30'72 TB of which the unit that has just been presented to the public shows. This unit, baptized as PM1643, can offer such storage capacity thanks to the use of the company's new 512 Gb V-NAND memories.

How could it be otherwise, at this point we must take into account this type of data, we are talking about a storage unit very focused on business use, something that is very clear when we find out its technical characteristics. Among them, for example highlight its storage capacity, reading and writing speed or its price, the same as we do not know at the moment But, going back to the version presented last year, we have as a reference the 10.400 dollars that each unit cost.

Technical characteristics of the new PM1643, a beast in terms of capacity that requires an investment just as powerful

According to the press release published by Samsung itself, the new PM1643 is a hard drive that can offer a 400.000 IOPS read speed while, as for deed, this speed drops to 50.000 IOPS. If you look at the speed of sequential read and write, this SSD is capable of working in the 2.100 MB / s and 1.700 MB / s respectively. To put this data in context a bit, just tell you that this speed literally becomes triple that of its predecessor.

On a technical level, this new SSD disk has been manufactured from the use of nothing less than 32 x 1TB V-NAND chips. For its part, each of these chips is composed of 16 stacked layers of 512Gb V-NAND chips. In order to unify this entire system and make it work properly, Samsung engineers and designers have opted for the use of a high speed controller which stands out for using a new firmware as well as having no less than 40 GB of RAM.

In case we do not need such a special unit with so much storage capacity, for different reasons but we do need its internal technology, Samsung has created nothing less than a new range of products where we find SSD disks of 1'92, 3'84, 7'68, 15'36 and 30'72 TB, undoubtedly a very powerful bet on this type of market which, in turn, is traditionally the one that usually brings the most benefits to this division of the Korean brand.
