Sony may not participate in the Minecraft cross-platform experience

Just a few days ago, in the shelter of E3 2017, the tech giant Microsoft announced what may be the biggest update ever planned for the popular game. Minecraft. Under the name "Better Together" (better together), Minecraft will leap into a cross-platform experience that will allow players to continue the game on one device right from where they left off on another.

This news, along with other news and improvements announced, has been really well received by the entire sector, from players to critics and specialized media, however, it seems that Sony could refuse to participate in that cross-platform Minecraft experience, which would leave many players “out of the game”.

Minecraft will not be as cross-platform as we thought

The popular game Minecraft, in the hands of Microsoft since it took over the company responsible for it three years ago (Mojang), it is always one of the biggest stars at E3, and this year it is doubly so, although, unfortunately, it might not be to everyone's liking.

The company has been working for years to Minecraft  become a universal game, present everywhere, from consoles and desktops to mobile devices and, recently, also in the virtual reality that is so fashionable now. However, throughout this process a shortcoming was evident: the multiplayer mode was restricted to each of the platforms.

Fortunately, this limitation will disappear and with the update "Better Together" players will be able to play with your friends and pick up where they left off regardless of the gaming platform they are on. Well, this was what we believed at first because apparently the compatible consoles will only be those that are part of the Nintendo Switch and XBOX range since, as revealed in the middle Android Central, Sony refuses to open its network and participate in the cross-platform adventure of Minecraft.

At the moment the reasons are unknown, although it is assumed that it will be about competition issues, as well as that Sony is focusing on a multiplayer and multiplayer experience for PS4 and PC. Of course, during E3 2017 Sony presented an incredible list of new games.
