Space Works works to achieve passenger stasis in deep space travel

passenger stasis

Space works, a company funded directly by NASA, has just announced that today they are working to achieve the space passenger stasis. The first objective of this company, and especially of NASA, is to make this possible on a relatively «corto»Of about 55 million kilometers and several months in duration, a distance that, as you will surely know or be intuiting, separates the Earth from Mars.

If carried out without the crew of this mission doing it in a state of stasis, we are talking about 6 crew members having to live for months in a small compartment all together. As expected NASA does not consider that this could happen since it has been shown that no person is capable of supporting such a situation and not only because of having to live in a very small space, but also because of the interaction between astronauts, boredom or irritation, states that could become very dangerous.

Space Works is working on finding a solution to send 6 crew members to Mars.

Even so, this would be one of the smaller problems that would have to be faced, among other things because of the resources required to transport six humans to Mars. NASA estimates that the module in which they would travel would need about 380 cubic meters of volume and would have a 28.000 kg weight. To this we must add that they would need another 13.000 kilograms of food on board for the round trip.

As expected, this same group of astronauts would need less space and much less food if they could enter a state of stasis, that is, a kind of hibernation. Unfortunately, humans are not able to hibernate naturally, although it is already possible to induce this state for several days, something that is done in many hospitals in a process known as therapeutic hypothermia.

The big problem they work on at Space Works is precisely that they do this for long periods of time shown to cause certain problems. It is in the hands of this team of researchers to discover and the solution to travel to Mars is to achieve passenger stasis or whether, on the contrary, this option must be discarded and other solutions to the problem must be sought.
