Steam will stop offering support for Windows XP and Vista computers next year

Steam

In recent years, the Steam video game platform has become one of the popular ones that we can find in the market, although it's not the only one. The video game industry continues to hit record highs, making a ton of money. In fact, some games have higher budgets than some Hollywood productions of recent years.

A few days ago we echoed a statement that the Valve platform had issued, in which it reported that it would stop filtering the type of games available on its platform, a filter that in recent years had been the subject of various controversies. But it is not the last news that comes to us from the platform, since the company has announced that as of January 2019, The application will stop working on Windows XP and Windows Vista computers.

This decision it does not affect the catalog of games you have in your account, only to the equipment you use to enjoy Steam games, so you will be forced either to change computers if it is not compatible with later versions of Windows, or to install Windows 10, with whom the Steam application is frankly well.

On the Steam support page we can read:

As of January 1, 2019, Steam will officially stop supporting Windows XP and Windows Vista operating systems. This means that after that date the Steam Client will no longer run on those versions of Windows. In order to continue running Steam and any games or other products purchased through Steam, users will need to upgrade to a newer version of Windows.

The latest Steam features are based on an embedded version of Google Chrome, which no longer works on older versions of Windows. Also, future versions of Steam will require Windows features and security updates that are only present in Windows 7 and above.

For the rest of 2018 Steam will continue to run and release games on Windows XP and Windows Vista, but other Steam features will be somewhat limited. For example, new features like the new Steam Chat will not be available. We encourage all users of these operating systems to upgrade to newer versions of Windows for continued access to the latest Steam features and to ensure future access to all games and other Steam content.
