Stephen Hawking passes away

We woke up this morning of March 14, 2018 with sad news: the illustrious British astrophysicist Stephen Hawking has died this morning at his home in Cambridge at the age of 76, as confirmed by a family spokesperson.

Recognized worldwide as one of the most brilliant minds of recent times, Stephen Hawking has not only shed light on science, but has also given a lesson in the struggle for life. Diagnosed with the neurodegenerative disease Amytrophic Lateral Sclerosis (SHE) exceeded all life expectancies (1 or 2 years) that doctors predicted more than 50 years ago.

Stephen William Hawking had 3 children: Lucy, Robert and Tim, who have declared after the death of his father the following words: «We are deeply saddened by the death of our beloved father. He was a great scientist and an extraordinary man, whose work and legacy will live on for many years. His courage and persistence, as well as his humor and brilliance, inspired people around the world. We will miss him forever.

Among his most outstanding achievements are those that have to do with the Black Holes. Hawking developed the theory of black holes and showed that they could emit radiation. In the scientific literature, the famous scientist has contributed different works, not only academic, but popular, to bring science to the widest possible audience. Among his most outstanding works are: "History of Time", "The Universe in a Nutshell" or "The Theory of Everything". The latter also gave its name to a biographical film in the cinema back in 2014.

Lastly, His friends and colleagues at the University of Cambridge, the University where he obtained his doctorate in Cosmology in 1979, have wanted pay tribute this brilliant scientist and have published a video in his memory "You can see it higher up." In the official statement, the family also thanks the University for having opened a book of condolences that will be available to all those who want to pay tribute to the prestigious scientist.
