Boom Supersonic hopes to have its new plane ready by 2023

supersonic boom

Just a few days ago we were talking about how NASA had finally awarded a million dollar contract to Lockheed Martin for this and its highly qualified employees went to work on developing a silent supersonic aircraft, technology that, once developed, the United States Space Agency plans to sell to other companies such as, for example, Supersonic boom.

It is precisely Boom Supersonic which today is the protagonist of this same post thanks to the fact that, after presenting several prototypes with which have convinced companies such as Japan Airlines and Virgin Group to finance their activity, have managed to set a date for the arrival on the market of their new supersonic aircraft, a new generation that will begin to fly across the world, apparently in 2023.

Japan Airlines and Virgin Group will be the companies that will have the supersonic aircraft created by Boom Supersonic in their fleet

As has been revealed and, in turn, was to be expected, once the first units of Boom Supersonic's supersonic aircraft are ready to take to the air commercially, these will be operated by Japan Airlines and Virgin Group. These aircraft, as has been revealed, will have a 55 passenger capacity and enough power to cut in half the time it takes to cross any ocean on the planet.

To put the latter a bit in perspective, tell you, for example, the estimates of the engineers who are currently working on the development of this project, which tell us how their peculiar airplane model you will be able to travel from Sydney to Los Angeles in just 6 hours and 45 minutes instead of using the 15 hours it takes today for a commercial flight. By way of advance, it is estimated that traveling from Sydney to Los Angeles in such a plane It will cost about $ 3.500 per trip per traveler.

To be able to develop an airplane like this, baptized by the company itself as'the fastest civil aircraft in history', Boom Supersonic engineers have had to work with carbon compounds with which they have managed to make parts of any shape. Thanks to the use of this material, the company's engineers have managed to design and manufacture a lighter aircraft thanks, among other things, to the fact that this compound is lighter than aluminum, one of the main materials used today in the manufacture of this type of aircraft.

The XB-1, Boom Supersonic's new supersonic aircraft, will have the capacity to reach 2.716 kilometers per hour

Undoubtedly, we are living in a time when it seems that the commercial flight market is beginning to resurface thanks to the research of this new class of aircraft. At this point, it is inevitable to look back and see that, many years ago, there were other types of supersonic aircraft on the market, such as the well-known Concorde, the same that was operating from 1976 to 2003 or the one designed by the Russian company Túpolev, which began operating in 1975. If we go even further back in time, the truth is that the first superonic aircraft began operating in 1947. With this in mind ... What can the Boom Supersonic plane offer that is better than say a Concorde?

The Boom Supersonic idea that seems to have convinced several operators and even customers goes through not only using much more advanced technology to make flights safer. This is one of the main spearheads of the project as well as the possibility that flight prices are much cheaper. These, the high cost of the tickets and the security, were two keys so that the Concorde stopped operating. In the case of Boom Supersonic, we are talking about a ticket that will be a third cheaper than the Concorde had at the time.
