Tesla Settles Class Action Lawsuit Against Its Autopilot

Six owners of Tesla's Model S and Model X filed a class action lawsuit against the company. It alleged that the Autopilot was unusable and dangerous. For this reason, they claimed that Elon Musk's company had committed fraud by hiding this information, thus violating various user protection laws. Although ultimately the lawsuit will not continue.

Because it has been announced that Tesla has reached an agreement with these six people about it. So there will be no subsequent judicial process. Although this demand has brought to the table the problems that exist with the Autopilot of their cars.

The plaintiffs further commented that they had been forced to pay an additional $ 5.000 to have Autopilot in their cars. Because according to Tesla it was an additional security feature. Although it was not operational and did not work regularly. So it was an unsafe system. In fact, the fatal accident with a car of the brand was with the Autopilot turned on.

It was on the night of Thursday May 24 when this agreement between both parties has been announced. They have done it in federal court in San José, California. Although at the moment the judge has not yet approved this agreement. But it should happen next week.

In the statement they have issued, Tesla claims to want to do the right thing. Therefore, they announce that compensate people who bought Autopilot 2.0 and that they had to wait longer than they should for their driving characteristics to kick in.

Tesla has commented that this solution will be available to customers around the world. All those who between 2016 and 2017 paid an additional $ 5.000 to update Autopilot. These consumers will receive compensation that can range from $ 20 to $ 280, depending on the situation. They will also pay legal costs to people who have started a process against them.
