The world's largest battery will be from Tesla and will be in Australia

With a capacity to store one hundred megawatts, the company Tesla will be in charge of the world's largest lithium battery which will be manufactured by Tesla and installed in a wind farm in the town of Jamestown, Australia.

The initiative responds to the joint project carried out between Tesla and the renewable energy company Neoen. Both have already reached an agreement with the Government of South Australia so the project already has the green light to become a reality.

The world's largest battery will have the Tesla seal

Tesla and Neoen have already reached an agreement with government authorities for the installation of what will be the largest lithium battery in the world. It is a large cell with a storage capacity of 100 MW, a capacity three times that of the largest battery in operation during this time.

Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla

Jamestown, a town located in South Australia, is the place chosen for such an ambitious project. Specifically, this gigantic battery will be installed in a wind farm which is still in the process of construction but whose completion is scheduled before the end of this year 2017.

Although contractual details of the project have not yet been made public, it's known that the total cost will probably exceed 50 million dollars and its essential purpose is to store and supply power to the electricity grid in emergency situations.

The CEO of Tesla, Elon Musk, gave a press conference in the city of Adelaide detailing that the battery can be charged when there is an excess of energy and therefore its price is lower, so that it can be used when the price of production to rise. In this way, "the average cost for the end customer decreases."

In addition, Musk has committed to completing the installation within 100 days; otherwise, he will bear the cost of the project.
